Abusive bosses don't drive performance. They undermine it. 471 studies, 149k people, 36 countries: in aggressive workplaces, we do poorer work, collaborate less, and shirk more. Incivility breaks confidence and breeds resentment. The best way to get results is to show respect.

📢New on the @the_JOP Blog: "The Benefits of Being Neighbors with a Local Politician". @OlleFolke, Linna Martén, @johannarickne and @MatzDahlberg study the political economy of local politicians’ residential neighborhoods. Find out more 📖⬇️ jop.blogs.uni-hamburg.de/the-benefits-o…

🇧🇷 Paging all Brazil experts! 🇧🇷 How do elections for municipal councils work? Why do parties have so many candidates!? How do parties convert campaign funds to votes? What is the “nitty gritty” of donor patterns and clientelism in council elections?

Olle Folke Reposted

People lie to rejected candidates and tell them it was because they are a man, presumably to avoid the awkward reality that another candidate was considered better qualified. I personally witnessed this more than once. People say it to make the rejected candidate "feel better".

I don't get all these "I was told by the search committee" claims folks are bandying about either. I have literally never participated in a search—either as candidate or committee member—where any reason other than "we went with another person" was communicated to candidates
