When giants collide 💥 A dramatic change in a star's luminosity was caused by a giant, glowing cloud of dust. And the likely cause? A cataclysmic crash of two giant exoplanets, leaving behind the cloud and one single molten core, still orbiting the star. go.nasa.gov/3MLnnM7

Spectacular global coronal wave that accompanied the CME associated with the latest X3.3 flare in AR 13575. This is a scale-up version of the previous M5.1 and M4.0 events from the same region. This flare could have been ~X10 if not occulted by the limb.

Comet ahoy! Our STEREO mission caught this glimpse of Comet Nishimura as it made its closest pass by the Sun last week. While STEREO’s main job is studying the Sun and its connection to Earth, the spacecraft’s images of comets help us understand what the icy bodies are made of.

You can’t escape its clutches. Just in time for #Halloween, the Pillars of Creation reach back out like a ghostly hand. The eerie landscape, captured this time by Webb’s mid-infrared instrument (MIRI), spotlights ancient curtains of dust in new detail: go.nasa.gov/3DGI2ws
