few things condemn nz public life more than the fact that this man consistently wins public money through media campaigns

Once again I feel the need to link this about the Golden Mile changes. stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/… Council and the experts that are belittled wanted the cheaper option. It was the public feedback that changed it. You know, that public feedback that's never listened to.

I remember this photo. I was there when it was taken. We did an interview at The Woolstore, then decided to take a photo outside Bourdeax Bakery. It was about a 300 metre walk away. Everyone in this picture decided to drive. It took three separate cars.

Our media is breathlessly reporting that “research has found” every $1 invested in Gumboot Friday results in $5.70 of social return. These downstream benefits are notoriously difficult to measure so I went digging to find who did the “research.” You’ll never guess… 🧵

🧵So I've spoken to AT and been given the costings for the raised crossings. Orsman's story says "crossings are costing up to $500,000", but the actual cost is $19k to $31k. I also confirmed that Orsman was given this information, but chose not to publish it.

Bernard Orsman writes a shock-horror story about discovering raised crossings in a project whose plans have been public for more than four years. Did he just not bother to look at them every other time he wrote about it? nzherald.co.nz/nz/auckland-tr…

Why are the BCR cases on lowering speed limits so good? Well it's because the woke *checks notes* traffic engineers for some reason price not killing and maiming people at a higher premium than saving *checks notes* 11 seconds of driving time

Wide lanes. Heaps of traffic. Plenty of parking so you can stop and pick up your shopping. That's why Nelson and Hobson Sts are two of the most vibrant places in Auckland city centre

To recap: - Public opinion supported installing safety improvements for cyclists - The improvements were not implemented and a young person was killed while cycling - Elected reps are still pushing Auckland Transport to install improvements Some frustration seems warranted?!?

Mark Lambert said he could update offline in response to Cr Richard Hills question regarding this judgement stating the road is dangerous so I followed up with email for the report on what they have done as I’ve continuously requested this be addressed.

Whether it’s ‘band-aid’ or ‘trickle-down’ economics, our main parties are stuck in a status quo that needs to go. Fiddling at the edges will not deliver the change that is needed to support our people, planet and prosperity 1/n
