“Men who are inferior to their fellow men, are always most anxious to establish their superiority over women.” ― Mary Wollstonecraft

By the time I started my group I was already ineligible for any ‘Early Career’ schemes but woefully uncompetitive for ‘Mid Career’ schemes. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I belong nowhere.

Well precisely the idea behind all "early career" labels is to avoid this sort of bias. Not everyone starts studying/working at the same time, plus people take career breaks.

This may be unprofessional but I f***ing love my job. 😊

Academics - Whats the best thing your department does to foster a great culture?

So touched that my wonderful group made me a birthday present. A ‘wild’ molecule from my PhD. 😊

This is my favourite Glasgow plaque. I've featured it before and I'll make no apologies for featuring it again. It can be found in the ruins of the North Woodside Flint Mill beside the River Kelvin in the West End of the city. Cont./ #glasgow #plaque #memorial #sherbet

Did you know Isotopes were pioneered @UofGChem? They were discovered by #Soddy who won the 1921 #NobelPrize in Chemistry for this discovery. Thanks to Prof. David Sanderson for a fascinating talk on Soddy, Radiochemistry in Glasgow and changing scientific paradigms

And he did study @UofGlasgow @UofGChem #worldchangerswelcome ✨⭐️

In the late 1880s William Ramsay discovered argon, named after the greek word for lazy due to its unreactivity. It opened the door to the discovery of other noble gases including neon ('the new one'), krypton ('the hidden one') and xenon ('the strange one').

What’s better than getting an exciting result in the lab? When my team get a great result so I get to be both excited and proud. 🤩

Bonus question: on a scale of 1-10 how much would you like to automate your Schlenk line work?

📢𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗸 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆📢 I am running a survey to understand Schlenk line design preferences and to gather information about techniques/training. Please do take some time to complete the survey and share with others! smartsurvey.co.uk/s/Schlenk/

Just when I thought I was ontop of things…a new ligand design has come along to haunt me with possibilities. #DontDoIt #ButItWouldBeSoCool
