Update from @NathanielPosts: during Vahey’s arraignment this afternoon, prosecutors said Vahey had a prior DUI conviction. In 2009, he was arrested with a 0.20 BAC while driving the wrong way down Pine near 10th. Record was expunged after completing alcohol treatment program.

Michael Vahey, 68, has been charged with fatally striking Dr. Barbara Friedes as she rode her bike last week. His BAC was twice the legal limit at time of the crash, police said. The charges: vehicular homicide, vehicular homicide by DUI, reckless driving, DUI, and more.

Police completed the investigation into the crash that killed Barbara Friedes, and while officials declined to say whether the driver will face criminal charges, the District Attorney’s Office said it will make an announcement in the case on Thursday. inquirer.com/news/philadelp…

Spent today working on this heartbreaking story

Excited to announce that I am spending the summer at @PhillyInquirer working on the Justice and Injustice team! If you have any tips or concerns on cops, courts, crime or anything criminal justice related, please reach out at nrosenberg@inquirer.com

Last summer I sat across from Yash every night in our apartment while he poured over Wisconsin DNR records to write this story. I couldn’t be more proud of him!

During my first week in Milwaukee, I was assigned a story about an evacuated apartment complex. I did not expect it would turn into a summer-long investigative series with @sophiasvento that would end up being named an SPJ national finalist. spj.org/moe23.asp#AllP

Updated the article with an interview with one of the arrested protesters! yaledailynews.com/blog/2024/05/0…

We've been making press badges by writing press on name tags and duct-taping them to our jackets. It works!

I've been speaking with campus reporters - what a crash course they're all getting. Working non stop (during finals!!), making makeshift press vests, dealing with police, violence, and getting national attention.

violent arrests at yale at the tail end of a peaceful pro-palestine demonstration while protesters were adhering to a dispersal order. @NathanielPosts reports: yaledailynews.com/blog/2024/05/0…

I talked to multiple participants in the march who said it was peaceful, and described YPD's arrests as violent and abusive, in contrast to their arrests on April 22. Story to come.
