#DivorceTip #9 - be your own best #divorce detective. Your smart phone is one of your best tools. Take pictures and make recordings (subject to local, state and federal laws and restrictions). If in doubt, consult with an attorney.

#DivorceTip #8 - don’t involve your #children and your divorce and don’t discuss the #divorce with them. Don’t treat your children as though they are your friends or your allies. They didn’t cause your problems. Leave them out of it. Period.

Divorce Tip #7 - Interview multiple #lawyers. Find an attorney that understands your case and will treat your #divorce as though it were his only case. Beware of interviewing one lawyer only to find someone else representing you that you’ve never met before.

Divorce Tip #6 - #Divorce is stressful. Take care of yourself during the divorce process. Exercise. Eat healthy. Give yourself a mental break every once in a while. Failing to take care of yourself can result in both physical and mental breakdowns. You will get through it.

Divorce Tip #5 - Keeping Costs down: #divorce litigation is expensive. Keep emotions out of the equation and treat the division of your assets as a business negotiation. Let go of unnecessary emotional attachments to “things“

Divorce Tip #4 - Regardless of your income start thinking about the following: 1)What is your monthly budget;2)Custody/parenting schedules; 3)Estate planning/Revisions; 4) Retirement planning; 5)Tax considerations; 6)Account Beneficiaries; 7) College Tuition.

Divorce Tip #3 - Don’t rely on what your friends tell you about what happened in their divorce. Everyone’s case is unique. Listen to your lawyers — they know what’s best in your case. #divorce #divorcelawyers #njdivorce

Divorce Tip #2 - Do not engage in useless arguments. Arguing with your spouse will not result in a positive outcome. #divorce #divorcetips #smartdivorce

I’m often asked by clients what they should be doing to prepare for a divorce or separation. Tip#1 - get you Finacial records in order. Get copies of all bank statements; loan documents including mortgage docs; credit card statements; brokerage and retirement acts.

Picking a #mediator blindly is the same as a random doctor to perform open-heart surgery. Ask the right questions. #smartmediation #divorce

What style of #mediation is best for you? Don’t pick blindly - understand the differences and pick the right mediator for your case.
