10/10 take. Cap Hill in particular needs a leader with a clear vision on this. If you make it viable to use bikes/scooters, fewer people need to own cars, which are expensive and barely fit in Cap Hill streets designed in 1860 for horses. We don't need to live in 1950 forever.
I also think this can be a good thing to move people away from being so reliant on cars. What I don’t like is that we are essentially subsidizing @lyft with free public space when we should be charging them for this space so we could then use those funds for what we need.
Looking forward to this. Interesting nuts and bolts discussion of the mechanics of advancing ballot measures
What a cliff. And the fiscal cliff is even bigger. An unprecedented abrupt halt to the flow of money - both for the financial system and the real economy.
US investment-grade bond funds suffered their third-largest cash exit on record, with investors yanking $10.3 billion out of the funds in the week ended Sept. 28; Refinitiv Lipper. It marks the sixth straight week of withdrawals, via @TheTerminal
I know it's a little technical, but we are on the edge of simultaneous collapse in both the global bond and stock markets, fueled once again by the fragility created by an outrageous abundance of leveraged options.
Something very important is going on in the pension fund industry. Why was the Bank of England forced to intervene as the lender of last resort? Is something going seriously wrong? A thread. 1/
This is the one year % change in the fully financed cost of an average U.S. house with a 30 year mortgage. Going back to 1975: +100%
Going through @MayorHancock's proposed budget for @DenSafetyDept, and pulling out some interesting charts. To follow along, start at page 557 for the OIM and 611 for Public Safety: denvergov.org/files/assets/p…
As a data point, apartment rents in my area are up over 25% during the past 2.5 years. This is not primarily from supply chains, war, etc. It's from a 40% increase in the amount of broad money during that period (including the biggest year-over-year % increase since WWII).
For the last 8 years, the worst thing in the world has been the war in Yemen. Children have died by the hundreds of thousands, in the most brutal manner imaginable. Please call your representative in congress and demand that they support H.J.Res.87 to end this nightmare.
Confirmed. India has just bought oil from Russia-- at a discount (!) AND in rupees-roubles. This is the real story that you won't hear on the news. Global realignment.
Huge: CIA mass ("bulk") surveillance has been carried out “entirely outside the statutory framework, and without any judicial, congressional or even executive branch oversight. The nature and full extent was withheld even from the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence."
BREAKING: Newly declassified documents reveal that the CIA has been secretly conducting massive surveillance programs that capture Americans’ private information.

Reporter: “It’s an action that you say they have taken, but you have shown no evidence to confirm that. [...] This is like - crisis actors? Really? This is like Alex Jones territory you’re getting into now.” Must-watch exchange between @APDiploWriter Matt Lee and @StateDeptSpox
“Why don’t survivors just go to the authorities.” “Well or just go to the press.” Me:
This is the government 🗑🔥 This is the government funding human trafficking and being involved 🗑🔥💸 This is the government standing in between justice for survivors 🗑🔥✋😢 This is you paying the government to take care of the problem ☹️💵🗑🔥
Governments & oligarchs benefit the most from inflation & they pay Keynesian propagandist whores like Krugman to promote the idea that inflation is good for the poor, who are the ones hurt most by it.
Aside from priorities, is this even true? Is there any good reason to believe that inflation hits low-income households especially hard? 1/
The Assange case is the most powerful government in the world defending its right to lie to you.
