On November 16, 1885, in Regina, the Canadian state murdered & assassinated our leader, President& Premier, Louis Riel Jr. On this day every year since then, we have gathered at his burial site to pay honour to Riel and to that which he stood for…1/2

Today, we held a commemoration ceremony at Riel's gravesite on the anniversary of his execution to honour him as a historic #RedRiverMétis leader, visionary, Father of Confederation and the first Premier of Manitoba. #RedRiverMétisGovernment

In 1990 I helped create what’s now called the Indigenous Liberal Commission-it was an experiment I regret now-it’s used by pretendian MP’s trying to get legitimacy via self-identification! Liberal Indigenous caucus chair: Identity 'complicated' | CTV News ctvnews.ca/politics/chair…

Folks are acting surprised about Elon acting as “co-president” but let me assert this without equivocation: the role he is playing is that of King. Canada should watch itself very carefully because they intend it to be the next of his North American holdings.

It’s sort of clichéd but that whole thing about “what would you be doing during the rise of the Nazis” is what you’re doing right now is actually true.

Louis Riel is executed by the state the next week, on November 16, 1885 - lest you think the building of the CPR is not connected to Canada’s history of settler capitalism. Too often we see these events (nation building and Indigenous resistance) as isolated, not interconnected.

On this day in 1885, the Last Spike was driven in on the Canadian Pacific Railway. The photograph is one of the most famous in Canadian history, but there is so much more to the story of the Last Spike than the photo shows. Let's learn more :) 🧵1/14

seeing world leaders tweet shit like "I look forward to working with you" to Trump like they're applying for a job at his new fascism company is wild

...Like Ellul, the great French writer Albert Camus recognized fascism as a new force of modernism. Camus, too, served in the French Resistance. Be careful, he warned: “When a democracy is sick, fascism comes to its bedside, but it is not to inquire about its health.”...

“Fascism is rattling political systems from Europe to Israel. “The globe’s now 74 autocratic regimes outnumber 63 faltering democracies, proving one thing: globalization has not expanded, let alone improved, democracies as promised.” thetyee.ca/Analysis/2024/…
