This is a wise & thoughtful thread. I’ve long thought Washington reporting has become too willing to base stories entirely on anonymous sources, sometimes a single source. I trust some reporters to use this tool carefully, but too many do it.

But the vibe-conomy shrunk by a lot more

GDP grew at an annual pace of 3.3% in October, November, and December -- much stronger than most forecasters expected. The US economy ended the year 3.1% bigger than when 2023 began, defying expectations that higher interest rates might tip the US into recession.
