Shortest dialogue-tag error in the English language: “Yes,” I nod.

"I think that's an error, it's supposed to be ALL GLITTER." --things you hear in production meetings for children's books

Notes you get to make working in children's books: Make sure this character matches prev page. In earlier illo, entire body appeared furry, but here the face doesn't seem to be furry.

My girlfriend: Do you have any little Post-its? Me, a proofreader who raided the Japanese stationery store shortly before all proofreading switched to digital: omg I'm made of little Post-its

Typo of the day: The wind came from across the Brazilian boarder.

#edibuddies, do you capitalize the N in Post-it Notes when they're mentioned in fiction? post-it.com does, but it looks like only the Post-it part is TM and the rest is branding...

If you're not already doing a lil stretch every time your cat or dog does one, let me highly recommend it.

#edibuddies: I'm developing a proper noun analysis tool that spots possible typos. It's FAST, customizable, and so helpful. Thinking about pricing... Would you pay $25 for it? How about $25/y? What feels reasonable to you?

What are some good ways for the MC to learn the gender and/or pronouns of magical creatures they meet? I come across this a lot in MG fantasy. Suddenly the narrative switches from "it" to "he." Making assumptions based on name or appearance or tone of voice isn't great...

Flagging in current MS: mumbo jumbo. Since this term comes from "a masked figure among Mandingo peoples of western Africa" (@MerriamWebster), it seems pretty disrespectful to use it to refer to nonsense or meaningless activity.

I'm working on summarizing and analyzing the past year's freelance work data and learning pivot tables in Excel. Here's a simple one that's super satisfying to show my career development over time!

I copyedited this too, so devastating and important.

Hi I copyedited this!

There's no way to save your workspace in Word and open Word after a computer reboot with the same 4 documents as before, is there?

I hate turning down appealing freelance work! I work for too many publishers now, a nice place to be career-wise, but how to actually benefit from it? I want to charge way more, get offered less & work less, but I feel like pub clients will never pay much more? Who has advice?

Copyediting academic texts made me really good at reading quickly without understanding or absorbing, and now that I'm taking a class with assigned reading my brain is useless. I don't think I know how to read boring text for comprehension anymore!

How do YA fiction copyeditors feel about using a period with a letter standing in for a name (CMS 7.66)? Constructions like this are common for teachers (Ms. A. was late again) and I feel like the period is cumbersome and may make a reader expect it to be the end of a sentence.

I'm fact-checking a book on food around the world w/phonetic pronunciations, so I'm watching YouTube vids of women in kitchens in South Africa, Turkey, Georgia, Sweden, Korea, etc. showing how to make their traditional recipes so I can catch their pronunciation. It is delightful.

For the first time ever I am limiting myself to (and budgeting for) a fixed amount of income each month, instead of "I know I'll be horrifyingly busy, but why not take on one more project, more money is always good!" It is a very weird feeling.
