Poor grades do not motivate struggling students. Poor grades just makes students hate school even more. What is motivating? Patience, Reteaching, Adults that Care, Second chances, Relationships. #edchat #education

Averaging scores over time to determine a final grade all but ensures that a student who starts with skill gaps will never achieve the success of someone who did not. Like, can we just pause and think about this for a second, think about what message we're sending to students?

InquiryMindsetAssessment Edition book club. A visit from @trev_mackenzie was a great way to finish off a summer of learning. Thanks everyone for the rich conversation around assessment. I have so many great ideas moving forward. Thanks Shannon @DramaQueenBRC for organizing.

Sometimes when I am working on book revisions, I come across a sentence that is so good, I cannot believe I wrote it. Lol. Like, “This reaction speaks to a system that has explicitly taught and reinforced the idea that students are passive recipients of adult decision-making.”

"While math is a subject that is traditionally thought of as logical & devoid of emotions, it can bring up plenty of emotions for students & parents. Unfortunately, grades & test scores can be a trigger for these emotions." @molli_mathrebel #tg2chat ctt.ec/0iA1C+

#SELchat. Great discussion on the importance of SEL, especially during these crazy times. Teachers need to walk the talk. We need to focus on building strong relationships with our students by being vulnerable and modeling what empathy looks like. Thanks for sharing @JWeatherby

Thank you for so many people hopping on this evening for this first #SELchat with @SELearningEDU Iron sharpens iron and the more we can all collaborate together the more Ss will benefit. I appreciate you all for having me host and sharing so many great ideas and thoughts!
