I’m ready to talk about state care for the elderly vulnerable in our first-world country in 2024. And I’m fighting despair and rage. So many amazing individuals working in the NHS, but the lived reality for patients and loved-ones is devastating.
I've made a summary of Ofsted's English subject review which was released at the start of March. It's for both primary and secondary teachers and leaders. There's a written and visual summary on my website: marcrhayes.com/post/a-summary… I hope it's useful!
If there is only one interview to watch, it is this one. Anne Watson and John Mason discuss their lasting truths about mathematics teaching. I won't revel any spoilers - watch it for yourselves! youtube.com/watch?v=bMx1ha… #thereislightattheendoftherainbow
If you have 20 mins (3 times!) over half term- please take a listen to this @NCETM 3-part podcast with @AlfColes and Prof Natalie Sinclair talking about their important book "I can't do maths! Why children say it and how to make a difference". Part 1: podbean.com/media/share/pb…
Do children get to see the area model alongside formal long multiplication? Is area model 'dropped' too soon due to SATs when so useful for KS3? Interesting discussions with Pri & Sec teachers in @NEHS_MathsHub workgroup. @LearningMaths @DrHelenDrury @MrsJHawkins2007 @cjshore
In case it’s useful to anyone (as the HTML version annoys me) I’ve made the Ofsted mathematics subject report into a Word doc and PDF: dropbox.com/scl/fi/qot6r6e… dropbox.com/scl/fi/l5seqmj… Original report hyperlinked.
This is a banging summary. Thanks for making it.
📚The DfE updated their Reading Framework this week to include guidance for KS2 and KS3. 📝I've made a summary of the new sections which I hope is useful. 👉You can download the PDF version here: marcrhayes.com/post/the-dfe-s… #edublogshare
And more bedtime reading! (Or airport and flying reading 🤨). Leaving this here for later … @geoffwake1 @helenjwc @DrHelenDrury @RuthTrundley @rachelgmarks @RHarveySwanston @MathsFin @LearningMaths @ATMMathematics @thejmcuk @p_glaister gov.uk/government/pub…
📚🧠 Covid-19 & lockdown have had a significant impact on pupils' emotional maturity. Check out our sketchnote to explore the 4 facets of emotional intelligence and discover effective strategies to develop these skills with your students. Let's empower them for success! 💪
That's it! The constructions and loci deck is published! #NCETMCheckpoints are hundreds (money on @donaldson_maths knowing the actual number) of tasks that are intended to help identify what KS3 students DON'T know, what they DO know AND HOW they know it ncetm.org.uk/classroom-reso…
Give every Mathematics Teacher a copy of this book and there'd be no need to keep reteaching Fractions & Decimals at Secondary! Developing understanding - No tricks, No KFC, No Butterflies just concepts . Might get more children wanting to do maths up to 18! @GillianKeegan
It's been almost two years since my last blog - but here goes! My thoughts on assessment. With thanks to @Louisa_J_22 for her thoughts on reporting to parents. primarytimery.com/2022/05/02/don…
A new set of #NCETMCheckpoints has just gone live. 24 tasks around transformations featuring snail jeopardy and one of my favourite puns ever!
Our new #NCETMCheckpoints PowerPoint slides and teacher notes now available for 'Understanding multiplicative relationships: fractions and ratio'. Assess your Y7s and plan what maths to tackle next with them ncetm.org.uk/checkpoints
Really want to change our marking policy to reduce teacher workload. Anyone out there done this successfully and seen a positive impact?
ADHD If you have (or suspect you have) ADHD what is something that you wish your teachers had understood? (I'd love your ideas to share with a group of fab SENDCos I'll be working with this week)
It was a pleasure working with @researchIP on this much-needed scoping study on #earlyhelp. There're a lack of clarity about what early help and support is, how universal it should be, and where any thresholds should be set. gov.uk/government/pub…
