hey, it's Lance. I'm 15 years late but this is my first tweet. I got out of federal prison two weeks ago and i'm going to share with you all what it's like trying to get back on my feet after four years of incarceration.
Always worth remembering that the four members of the OPOA executive board alone represent 2 million dollars worth of Oakland's budget deficit.
Possibly the first time Oakland residents are hearing that not only is the OPD not defunded, it exceeds its on paper budget by over 10% every year, a defacto larger yearly increase than generally understood

NEW: Food workers are nearly 2.5 times more likely to be food insecure than workers in other sectors of the economy. Workers and researchers agree that low wages and a longstanding lack of labor protections in the service industry fuel inequality. prismreports.org/2024/11/19/low…
This was the biggest whif I've seen at this podium in quite a while. Pro tip from someone who watches public comment as a prisoner of the process: if you have one minute, get to the point quick
OPD always wants more $$$ while being one of CA's worst at solving crimes & overspending $26.4M this year. Huy Nguyen, OPOA prez, protests budget cuts while pocketing $279K in OT—enough to fund 2 officers. This greed bankrupts our city.
Wild to me that the headlines today aren't "OPD Overspending Drive City of Oakland to Brink of Fiscal Insolvency". Ask yourself how they've been left out of he ledes and reporting--the things people remember and internalize. I'd be surprised if its an accident.
I proudly stood with DA Pamela Price, the first elected (not appointed) DA in Alameda County in over 100 years. She held corporations and police accountable—something her predecessors wouldn’t do. Today, she conceded to the recall with the same courage she brought to the office.
Alameda County DA Pamela Price for the first time since the election accepts/ comments on the outcome of voters recalling her from office. @nbcbayarea
Three daughters of Malcolm X are suing the CIA, FBI, the NYPD and others, accusing them of playing roles in the 1965 assassination of the civil rights leader apnews.com/article/malcol…
San Francisco women like Damena Page are languishing in jail for years pretrial, denied sunlight and basic human rights. DA Brooke Jenkins’ “tough on crime” policies only worsen overcrowding and brutal conditions. Justice shouldn't mean cruelty.
🧵 Conservatives ginned up panic about crime in San Francisco & helped install tough-on-crime prosecutor Brooke Jenkins, who was reelected last week. Here is a #longread about the real people the narrative hurt—incl. women trapped in jail without sunlight. theappeal.org/women-languish…
Violence interruption works by building trust and stopping conflicts before they escalate. Amazing work by @CURYJ and the Credible Messengers who came together to make our communities safer.
Yesterday CURYJ hosted The Credible Messenger Mentoring Bay Area Convening. Inside our Fruitvale Youth Power Zone, we had over 50 folks who engage in Violence Interruption throughout the Bay Area. #closeyouthprisons #buildyouthleaders #dreambeyondbars #ittakescuryj #curyj
What's left out of this headline is the OPOA president Huy Nguyen salary in 2022 was $553,000, of which nearly $261,000 was for overtime. #FRAUD
Oakland Police Officers Union demands independent investigation into Oakland’s finances, calls for a financial expert to review proposed budget before any cuts are made to vital police services ktvu.com/news/alameda-c…
Why do the media continue to carry water for Sam singer? No fact checking, just report whatever he says.... SMFH
This reporting is incorrect, the money just goes into escrow and is not available immediately. It likely came from a Singer press release, which appears embedded at the end
Check out some of our work this week!
This week at The Worker Agency: Over 400 unhoused people lost their lives on the streets of San Francisco Last Year. @TheCoalitionSF remembered the lives lost and called on the City to prioritize housing over sweeps. nbcbayarea.com/news/local/san…
SFUSD reports racist text messages targeting Black students in San Francisco. The district, alongside community partners, is offering support and cooperating with investigations.
BREAKING NEWS: SFUSD reports racist text messages targeting Black students in San Francisco. The district, alongside community partners, is offering support and cooperating with investigations. Authorities urge reporting these texts to the FBI or FTC. @SFUSD_Supe @kron4news
The fact of the matter is you win some and you lost some. That doesn’t mean that it’s over, real ones live and are ready to fight the next one in line. It can be the same person who got you the first time around or whoever is next in line. #realrecognizereal
For decades, polls show that Americans have been *sure* crime is rising, even when it isn’t. I looked into the recalls in Oakland—where violence is dropping significantly after a spike earlier in the pandemic—to try to understand some of the reasons why: motherjones.com/politics/2024/…
It's really telling how after two years of recall-fluffing reporting from corporate media, literally one or two articles to the contrary from the independent press send this group of propagandists into a paniced tail spin.
🔥 A must-read by @sjmichaels on Sam Singer, Oakland’s “Merchant of Bad Vibes”—the spin doctor spreading fear to back recalls against progressive leaders while serving the police union and corporate interests. #Oakland motherjones.com/politics/2024/…
New: A Jane Doe, who sued SFPD for using DNA from her rape kit to build a burglary case against her, has been awarded a $200,000 settlement from the city. sfstandard.com/2022/09/12/wom…
Coal dust Brenda changed course because the evil forces behind her told her to. Bottom line!
Ret. @AlamedaSuperior Judge Brenda @ForteHarbin called @AlamedaCountyDA Pamela Price “woman of integrity” & asked ppl to support her at oath of office ceremony. Now, @oakland city atty candidate says DA must be recalled. “She’s not the same person that she was,” she tells me
