The Captain and First Officer alternate their roles as pilot flying (PF) and pilot monitoring (PM) per flight sector. Roles are usually assigned by the Captain before the flight commences.
Did you know, contrary to popular belief, a copilot is a fully trained and qualified pilot? Also known as a First Officer, he/she is second in command and is capable of flying the plane from take off to touch down.
