Let’s not forget the developmental trajectory of a person who starts in law enforcement at 21 and then spends the bulk of the following decades having the authority to back-up all orders / opinions with a gun, a handcuff, or the threat of either.

Most minimum age requirements for police academies are around 21 years old. Think about that. No offense to my younger audience here, but those green officers are basically teenagers with guns AND authority.

Some police academies are as short as 17 weeks, others as long as 6-7 months. Either way, there is no way that’s enough time to learn how to manage people, particularly when you consider the methods by which they are trained to manage people with.

An observation my father made after visiting me in prison for a few years: cops are the only profession that gets ultimate authority over other human beings without ever having to earn it. They don't have to learn how to communicate, how to manage people, how to settle disputes.

DOC Commissioner just admitted NYC jails still use shower cages despite past DOC promise to remove them. Brandon Rodriguez died in solitary in a shower cage. Elijah Muhammad died shortly after being locked in one. @NYCCouncil must pass Int No 549 now to end solitary in all forms.
