These photos really illustrate the optimism, determination and passion of the students who took part in the Tiananmen protests in 1989. Striking contrast to the pervasive sentiments among Chinese youth today: "躺平 ("lying flat") and 摆烂 ("letting it rot").

For 35 years, Chinese leaders have tried to erase all memory of the Tiananmen protests and the brutal massacre that crushed them. Last week I found a file of photos I took in Beijing in 1989, most of which I haven't seen since. I will post some now to commemorate those times.

“We have a clear message from the [Israeli] head of a state about the need to destroy a population that as the president portrayed them, are all enemies.”

Gaza is a 'textbook genocide'. This is according to Raz Segal - an Israeli associate professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Stockton University in the US. Listen carefully to what he says. It's based on facts, law and precedent - and it should terrify you.

"Who’s going to tell the world? Once a story is not told for a day or two, it’s forgotten. If I don’t stand in front of the camera... how is the world going to know?" A moving account from my brave @AJEnglish colleague, journalist, survivor and mother @YoumnaElSayed17
