This week, I listened to #children - girls & boys - in communities most affected by the #WaterCrisis in Kabul. They told me how they miss school-days & carry water-container up the hill, including the additional stress on their parents. It is time to act NOW !!! @UNICEFAfg

We should all raise our voices for #Afghan girls and women whose voices are being silenced and dreams denied. Locked out of schools, confined to home, rights denied, they have few prospects beyond early marriage. No country can get ahead if half its population is left out.

#WorldPolioDay is a prime opportunity to remember that nothing exists in a vacuum. Poor sanitation and malnutrition make children more vulnerable to polio - especially under-immunised kids. To wipe it out needs a holistic response. Read my latest piece #NoMoreZeroDose👇

In Afghanistan, a holistic approach to eradication, combining community awareness with improvements to sanitation, yields its first fruits. 👉bit.ly/3YiCWzH #NoMoreZeroDose #WorldPolioDay @gatesfoundation @Rotary @gavi @jica_direct_en @eu_echo

Nothing happens in a vacuum - least of all the risks to children posed by diseases like #polio. Read my latest piece on the importance of a holistic response to free children from the grip of this disease forever 👇

“No country can move forward when half its population is left behind” Since the girls’ education ban was imposed 1,000 days ago, Afghan girls have collectively lost 3 billion learning hours. Their futures and the future of the country are at stake. Let them return to school.

“For 1.5 million girls, this systematic exclusion is a blatant violation of their right to education.” Read statement by @unicefchief Catherine Russell marking 1,000 days of education lost for girls in Afghanistan👇🏼 unicef.org/press-releases…

What is #HumanlyPossible to end vaccine refusals? Across #Afghanistan, 600 women are at the forefront of closing the gap on zero-dose children. Last week I had the privilege to meet some of them, in the remote Khost mountains on the border with Pakistan. Read the story👇

1/2 What’s your superpower? For the women at the forefront of changing attitudes towards #immunization in rural Afghanistan, it’s the ability to make people listen. Read about what they make #HumanlyPossible in this story!👇 bit.ly/4b0yaMy

At the Torkham border, @UNICEF has established child-friendly spaces for Afghan children returning to the country. These safe spaces operate 24 hours a day, offering psychosocial support and recreational activities for children until they can be reunited with their families.

Healthcare. Clean water. Counselling. Warm clothes. 96,000 children still need our help after the recent earthquakes in western Afghanistan. UNICEF is bringing life-saving assistance to the children who need it most.

"One of our main concerns is clean water." @UNICEFAfg Chief of Communication and Advocacy @DanTimme1 notes that UNICEF will truck clean water to earthquake-affected communities and continue to provide humanitarian assistance where it's needed most.

Once again, children and families in Afghanistan have been affected by a devastating earthquake, this time in western Herat province. @UNICEFAfg is on the ground with our UN colleagues to assess the full impact. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all families affected.
