Good to see belated concern for young people in the face of the global youth mental health crisis. However the evidence doesn’t support this remedy. And it’s a distraction from the main game which is the socioeconomic precarity of YP. And from the urgent need to boost MH care.
@PatMcGorry hi Patrick. Would be interested in your thoughts on the proposed social media ban. When you have time or inclination
Literally going against all expert advice, taking a tough stance on something unenforceable so they can continue to be spineless about everything that’s hard
#BREAKING 🚨 Anthony Albanese has just announced the government will seek to ban teenagers under the age of 16 from social media The announcement confirms the exact age restrictions that will be imposed
Gone is a genocidal president too hypocritical to admit it. And in comes a genocidal president who wears it as a badge of honor.
How on earth did primary schools manage to function before they could send parents 4 notifications a day on a very mediocre app?
Incredibly generous colleague too 👏👏

In the years I’ve been making Stuff The British Stole, the biggest lesson for me has been how much history hides behind politeness—polite plaques, polite speeches, polite monarchs. I don’t have Lidia Thorpe's life experience, and it’s not appropriate for me to offer commentary…
Israel is literally wiping out apartment buildings in Beirut tonight. Let that sink in—residential buildings full of Lebanese families. In what universe is this considered “self-defense”?
BEIRUT: Israel has bombed one of main water channels from Litani River. Thousands hectares now without irrigation. Will cause huge food shortages. On top of heavy shelling & “widespread” (HRW) use of chemical weapons by Israel (white phosphorus) on sth Lebanon this is devastating
Looking forward to this. The best conference for critically informed alcohol and other drug research.
We are delighted to announce that the call for papers for the 2025 Contemporary Drug Problems conference is now open. The call closes on 15 January 2025. Please circulate this call widely through your networks and we look forward to seeing you there! latrobe.edu.au/arcshs/events/…
update: the lebanese health minister just announced that israel’s attacks on lebanon led to 1873 deaths and 9134 injured. and the world is still silent.
i hate how no one is talking about the massacres currently happening in lebanon. over 1,500 people died and NO ONE is speaking about it.
I find it so amusing that Rupert Murdoch could only persuade ONE of his children support to support his political views 😂
Fave bit from this banging op-ed by @ebony_bennett
The mining industry are surely the biggest whingers in the country, writes dep director @ebony_bennett in the @canberratimes #auspol canberratimes.com.au/story/8762625/…
Vic Police inciting violence, msm misreporting it - they planned a public subsidised weapons fair in middle of Melbourne in middle of a genocide ... what the hell were they thinking? #DisruptLandForces #auspol
Hey @VictoriaPolice, you are trusting people like this with access to lethal weapons. Perhaps you need to rethink that. #DisruptLandForces
The level of accepted corruption in our political and justice systems is disgraceful. This occurs without consequence over and over theguardian.com/australia-news…
If the gov't want to improve the mental health of young people, they could invest in internet safety, education about privacy, bullying prevention, youth workers in schools, or most radically, they could consider funding mental health services adequately. newmatilda.com/2024/05/24/sil…
Teenagers are too young for social media, and also apparently too young to protest for what they believe in. But 10-year-olds apparently can understand criminal responsibility.
Important to see focus on kids & young people. Important to remember that sexual violence services have worked for decades w kids and young people, but are starved for funds. #nationalcabinet
Some academics document their achievements and impacts in an organised computer file. Others have to Google their own name to remind them of what they have done and then manually count things the night before something is due. GUESS WHICH ONE I AM?!
