Cover reveal: My book, "Leaning Out" will be published by @HardieGrant @crikey_news in September. What happens when girl power grows up? How has "lean in" feminism failed to deliver? Covid-19 has provided us an opportunity for a re-imagining -- and a new deal for women at work.

💯 In our upcoming webinar, we will discuss these factors and learn strategies for incorporating and strengthening alcohol reduction within violence prevention efforts. 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐰🔗 us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regist…

A complex story told well. If sitting with — and engaging with nuance and complexity — can help us prevent harm and save lives, maybe we can do that here in Australia.

I know this is a long shot but if you know anyone with a kid under 6 who is on payments please check in with them about this if you can x

PARENTS: If you have a kid under 6 & are on Centrelink, please let us know if you've been contacted about Parent Pathways. The program replaced ParentsNext on 1 November & we've already heard one horror story. We're hoping to get an understanding of whether it's widespread.

Since the start of the war, the IDF has killed at least 126 journalists in Gaza and many of their families. This is the story of Wael Al Dahdouh, and the Palestinian journalists who continue to report despite the extraordinary risks they face. theguardian.com/world/2024/oct…

When we have research telling us that 90% of Aboriginal women are not disclosing their experiences of domestic and family violence and being 11 times more likely to die from assault at the hands of perpetrators, we are shamefully failing.

I’ll quote the words of Aunty Pat Anderson AO in relation to the David Crisafuilli’s decision (abc.net.au/news/2024-10-3…, ABC, 31 Oc), & she’s been saying this for decades, “Indigenous people are used as a political football” & “a political football game with no rules”.

I hope that one day, feminism can progress to the point where the moral ambiguities or failures of one woman are no longer seen to refute the rights and dignity claims of all women.

Time poverty: Women have too many things to do—often unpaid care work—and not enough time to do them, impacting time for paid work. Companies must invest in childcare, normalize men doing childcare at home & codify flexibility in policies. @blessingdesiyan fortune.com/2024/10/29/chi…

Everyone has called on many govts to #RaisetheRate Now a coroner has joined the call, particularly for women fleeing #domesticviolence What does it take for State & Fed govts to understand that #poverty cripples everyone it touches. @ACOSS @Djirra @CFECFW tinyurl.com/36r8a57u

Here we have the mentions, but not the funds for frontline services or boost in income supports to match the rhetoric, in my opinion.

With no explicit mention of Violence Against Women and Girls or domestic abuse in the Chancellor’s speech we are concerned about the ability of government to halve VAWG in a decade. Our Head of External Affairs responds to budget- womensaid.org.uk/womens-aid-res…

Just take Sure Start Centres – a recent report by the IFS found that access to a centre for young children resulted in better GCSE results ten or more years later. For children from the poorest backgrounds, the positive effects were six times higher.

The UK’s first ever female Chancellor has today delivered a budget with some promising green shoots for women. But we need greater ambition both on changes to taxes and on the levels and areas of investment, and on social security. Read our response here: wbg.org.uk/article/some-p…
