“Twice this week, I have watched an elderly individual, fade into the busy life in which we all live. One man just needed Panadol for his wife but the shop assistant simply said it’s in aisle ‘6’. But he struggled to navigate the supermarket and as I watched him go in the wrong…

Lots of discussion on primary care teams. Using @INSPIRE_PHC data we found people attached to teams have lower % of hospital readmission. We need more teams to support the system!! @OntarioCollege @kellygrant1 @Queens_HSPRI @janephilpott @QueensuFamMed @CAOT_ACE @theRCOT

We've known for about 20 yrs that countries with health systems firmly rooted in primary care get the best outcomes at the lowest cost in a manner that is both equitable & accessible: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P… Canada's health systems haven't YET been firmly rooted in primary care.

What to do if you fall. What to do if you see someone fall. Should be published everywhere elders are. Which is everywhere. And given 1/3 of 65+ will fall, which can lead to a brain bleed or fracture… #geriatrics #falls #cdnhealth #publichealth #health #seniors #elderlife

What an incredible surprise! Would not be possible without the inspiration and support of mentors, interprofessional care providers, and my lovely colleagues. Can’t wait to carry on this work in my future career 🥰

Congrats to Dr. @KaitlinSiou #FamilyMedicine Resident of the Year – Ontario’s Rising Star! Studying @UofTFamilyMed, she is recognized for her work with @Sunnybrook & @NorthTorontoOHT to keep aging populations healthy & improve healthcare access for complex patients. #OCFPAwards

In the next 20 years, we will see population ageing unlike we have ever seen- this is the result of the boomer birth cohort and longer lifespans. Here is what that will look like in Ontario by 2046 (from ontario.ca/page/ontario-p…)1/x

Global warming will get progressively worse and cannot be stopped over the next 30 years, a major new UN report has concluded, because the world's nations delayed so long in curbing emissions. A hotter future is now essentially locked in. nyti.ms/3CnXk6G

Can you imagine living in your house for 40+ years and then having someone walk into your hospital room and tell you that you need to move--to a skilled nursing facility or a place that ain't your house--like it's no big deal? News flash: It's a big deal. Even if you need it.

What would happen if cancer treatment was not provided as it was “too expensive?” What about if obstetrical care was not provided as it was “too expensive?” So why was it considered “too expensive” to improve staffing & infection control to protect elders from #COVID19 in LTC?

To start, thank you to Dr. Anthony Fauci of the @NIAIDNews for your inspiring words for our @uoftmedicine + @UofT_DoM + @Sunnybrook faculty/trainees/allied health colleagues

Yes. Here's a powerful image: overlapping, healthier birth weights seen in African-born black and US-born white Americans. The outliers are babies born to US black American mothers. The differences are based in institutional, interpersonal, and intrapersonal racism, not genetics.

Worked at the #COVID19 Assessment Center tonight and asked a gentleman to self-isolate. He said, “I’m homeless & don’t want to make my friends at the shelter sick. So I’ll sleep on the street.” Moved by his concern but distraught at the inequity. We need suitable space NOW! ✊🏽
