I don’t know what’s going on in secondary education, but MANY students are graduating from high school unprepared for the demands of university study and more importantly lacking emotion regulation skills, self-awareness and resilience. Is it any wonder everyone is burnt out?

The core issue for me seems rooted in the widening gap between secondary education preparedness and college demands. This growing disconnect not only burdens students but also strains educators, leading to burnout and disengagement on both ends.

Reflecting on this semester and planning for fall: what policies have you used to get students to come to class? Ours student attendance is abysmal as the semester progresses. Help! #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter #academia #HigherEd

Should teaching-track faculty be at risk if tenure-track faculty don’t fulfill their research obligations? #academia #AcademicTwitter

I don’t think students understand how stressful it is to turn students into Academic Integrity. It’s part of my job that I hate the most. I am not one to want to “get” or “catch” a student. But they leave you with no choice.

Thank you, student, for telling me now in the middle of the semester that you just read the syllabus. This explains so much.

Trying to convey “I just did the thing” repeatedly in academic verbiage is exhausting. #AcademicChatter #academia #instructorlife #PhD #phdchat

Serious question: why is drinking so prevalent in academia? It seems to be provided and encouraged at many events. I’m honestly not judging; I just worry about the people who struggle with it and might feel stressed about it always being around. #AcademicChatter #academia

Well I log into Threads in this account after creating it there yesterday, and the account was banned. Like wth. I promise I’m not a bot. I just want to be anon 😩

Me trying to find academic Twitter accounts on Threads 😬

Hot take: Graduate Assistants-if you plan on going into academia after graduating, you need to care as much about your teaching as you do about your research. Letters of recc often come from people that teach alongside you. Make sure they can say something good. #AcademicChatter

Asked a question in class and the fresh-out-of-HS student responded, “Hell yeah!” Definitely appreciate the enthusiasm, but how old am I again? 😬 #whatsmyageagain #academia #AcademicChatter

As a teaching track instructor, I have often been told the work I do is not as good or as difficult as TT even when only comparing teaching aspects: FR/SO lvl courses vs. SR/grad lvl courses. How has your institution helped to combat these differences in perception? #academia

“You’re smart for your age.” “You’re young for a professor.” Students should not be commenting on young, female professors’ age or intelligence in relation to their age. No wonder we’re exhausted 😩 I’m pretty sure ya’ll wouldn’t say that to a young, male professor.

Uni - creates random admin positions Also uni- cuts faculty lines Also also uni- 🗣️we need to increase enrollment Sigh. #academia #AcademicChatter

Attended an Educator’s Conference today & learned a new meaning for “sticky.” New: something that stays w/ students that they will remember. This is concept is sticky for students. My old mind: difficult or awkward. This situation is a little sticky. #xennial #stilllearning

So much this!! Classroom environment is not even close to the same. I don’t know what happened, but students forgot how to student.

“Post-COVID” students are different. If you haven’t been teaching in a classroom in the last 3 years, you don’t understand. Please listen to teachers.

Me: Sends 5 different announcements that the test is proctored, and the proctor enters the password. Info is also stated in the syllabus. Student email: Hey, it’s asking me for a password. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Happy Saturday, everyone!

How is Chat GPT going to impact your course, and what are your plans to address those impacts? #ChatGPT

When a student has a mental health crisis in your office and you are the one that has to get them through, convince them they need help, and get them to said help - I can take all the trainings in the world, but I still felt completely helpless in this situation.
