And we got it!!!! This is a historical day for Bioinformatics! Since always we get comments about bioinformatics and computational biology being secondary disciplines in comparison to experimental disciplines. No more! Congrats to the Nobel winners!! Today we celebrate!!!

Will we witness a new Nobel Prize related to the field of Bioinformatics tomorrow? A decade after the 1st one(s)? I think it is really time for it. We have several candidates and bioinformatics/computational biology/chemistry/biophysics have become central in many disciplines!

Excited to speak at the CSU Bioinformatics Seminar series this Friday at 12pm PST about my incredible @FulbrightPrgrm experience in Iceland, bringing together projects from @Haskolinn_Ak and @CalPolyCSM

Scotland has detected no cases of cervical cancer in women born between 1988-1996 who were fully vaccinated against HPV between the ages of 12 and 13. statnews.com/2024/01/25/hpv…

Terrific thread on a research story I am honored to be a part of - @andy_muan did an excellent job applying genomics and bioinformatics tools to address interesting questions related to adaptation in climate change conditions. Highly recommend the read!

Breaking news! With a whopping 160 billion base pairs, the #genome of the fork fern #Tmesipteris oblanceolata shatters previous size record in eukaryotes. And yet again, this ground-breaking record belongs to a plant! 🧬🧪🌿@IBB_botanic @CSIC cell.com/iscience/fullt…

So enjoying #GBES2024 - incredibly productive and thoughtful meeting focused on how we can best develop a global bioinformatics workforce!

Enjoying a great start to day 2 of #GBES2024 @bioinfoedsummit — yesterday we were led in a professional development on program evaluation from folks @MelbGenomics and lots of discussions today on data science competencies.

During hybrid sessions, educators, researchers, program coordinators, and industry/workforce liaisons brainstorm together at @bioinfoedsummit to make tools and resources more accessible. What do you think are the most pressing challenges to achieving this in #bioinformatics? 🧵

Timely reminder - the best thing we can do is be curious, kind, and generous. Thanks for the reminder @HarmitMalik

That amazing paper you spent years on? That amazing breakthrough you had? Very likely you built this following the work of others (very few exceptions), just as others will build off yours. Science is a continuum. Want to leave a lasting legacy in science? Be generous & be kind.

This is such a cool discovery!

The only known nitrogen-fixing organelle makes a marine alga the only known nitrogen-fixing eukaryote. I don't think y'all realize how *unbelievably cool* this discovery is. That and more from @ScienceMagazine and science in today's #ScienceAdviser science.org/content/articl…

INDEED

This resonates. The funding programs NIH, NSF, etc. AND the academic hierarchy have to change how they fund. Precision Medicine is not one lone scientist working in a vacuum. It is #collaboration. It is #transdisciplinary. Metrics for "success" have to change.
