Really pleased to have my new article on Romanies & London in eighteenth century published by @LonJournal tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Headlines like this are misleading & dangerous because the Office for Students categorises ‘Gypsy & Traveller’ as ethnic minorities Roma, Romany, Irish Trav and, yep… non-ethnic New Age Travellers, boaters, vanlifers, & anyone who doesn’t live in a house

"I don’t think it was until I entered academia that I realized how working class I am... any success we achieve is complicated by our relationship to the academy we have worked to join but where we can never truly be a member." - @deeinsidefilm medium.com/@deirdreoneill

The commercialisation of Charlestown continues to be a cultural disaster. Its turned one of Cornwall's historical gems into a plastic touristic trap

I'm so sad and angry!😡 Charlestown Shipwreck Museum is not being sold as a going concern as I thought. They are auctioning off the contents in November! Many items were donated to the museum by local families for safe keeping! Just selling off our history & heritage is so wrong!

Can't recommend the People's History Museum highly enough. Gillray, workers banners & indie music in the café

Today, the Roma and Sinti people continue to fight for their rights and recognition. This ongoing struggle underscores the ongoing impact of historical atrocities and the need for vigilance against all hate and intolerance. @HMD_UK @GateHerts #RomaGenocideRemembranceDay

Today we remember the 23,000 Sinti and Roma held at Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. On 2nd August 1944 during the Holocaust, it is estimated that 20,000 Sinti and Roma were liquidated. Today, we remember and honour them 💔

Really recommend checking out this great short video on Romani heritage by @johnhenry185

Here is my new short film about the heritage of Romany Gypsies! It’s about what you can see and what you can’t: the landscape that exists only in the eyes of those with the stories passed down to them. Written, filmed, and composed by me. ✌🏼❤️ youtu.be/vsGGBPoygT0?si…

To this point, we need to better enable access to research materials for those who want (or need, or are forced) to continue their research outside the academy post-PhD. How can we make sure that people can continue to do the research and write the books that only they can do?

I think we should be careful not to lose sight of the bottom line in the academic humanities, which is the output of research that makes a significant contribution to knowledge. That’s the prize we need our eyes on, even more than student satisfaction or academic job security

OK, British students, start researching how to get a postal vote NOW, and figure out where best to use it. You are PERFECTLY ENTITLED to be registered at both a term-time and permanent address, and to vote from whichever suits you, as long as you only cast one vote!
