I’m so excited to share with you all that our community has re-elected a Greens representative for the Ashfield – Djarrawunang Ward. Council can deliver on the overlapping crises of housing, climate & cost-of-living It is a privilege to help shape an equitable Inner West.
2. Minister @johaylen used to support protest but she'd changed in power. She placed massive exclusion zone around #Newcastle port to stop @RisingTideAus #protestival. Her #InnerWest constituents are aren't happy & this morning protested outside her office in #Marrickville
every city is a walkable city if you’ve got big strong beefy legs and an indomitable human spirit like me. also broke and car-less
I'd love to talk to a librarian in Australia about their fave Aussie kids books this year for an article I am writing. Know anyone? Please get in touch bysarahayoub(at)gmail(dot)com
She's in your LGNSW conference advocating for councils to endorse 100% public housing on public land. We cannot be cannibalising public assets for developers' profits Public land needs to be for public good!
This is setting a dangerous precedent for quashing our democratic rights to protest. We should be incredibly worried about actions like these from our Gov & be ready to push back! Our planet is burning and we need to act now!
Premier Minns has imposed a sweeping exclusion zone around Newcastle coal port in an attempt to stop the Rising Tide People's Blockade this coming Friday-Sunday and to protect his coal boss buddies. This is sweeping overreach and a threat to democracy. We will not back down.
MEDIA RELEASE 📰 Trumpesque scapegoating of migrants is a dangerous election tactic. Democracy in Colour has condemned the recent anti-migrant push from senior coalition figures as a disingenuous election tactic designed to shift blame and inflame division. #auspol
It says everything about the Minns Government’s priorities that they can hand out a 40% pay increase to the NSW Police (on the same day they are toughening anti-protest laws!) while claiming that they can’t manage a fair pay rise for nurses and midwives in NSW... 🧵
Ma dude - the Westconnex Dive site is currently owned by the NSW state gov. And public housing is a crucial part of housing stock to ensure equity which we haven't been contributing to in years. If anything investing in public homes is breaking the status quo.
The Greens are extremists. There is no reason why what was public generations ago should determine what is public now. This is inflexible status quo bias.
btw the cure to male loneliness is being in a union
So Hemmes has stepped down from Restaurant Association but a Director from @merivalegroup is still on the NSW Govt 24-Hour Economy Advisory Group. Is this the kind of 'advice' we want for a safe, vibrant and inclusive nightlife in Sydney @ChrisMinnsMP? smh.com.au/business/workp…
I just need people to know my Halloween costume is a (rental) Bond Girl
BIG NEWS!! We did it!! We have banned unfair no grounds evictions in NSW Congrats to @TUNSW and all the wonderful orgs and people who have been part of this decades long campaign! Stay tuned for more details and celebrations in the coming days 🙌🏽
MASSIVE NEWS! The Lower House has just passed a bill that will ban no grounds evictions and substantially improve renters’ rights in NSW. 🙌🏽
Rental reform - locked in!!
Debate on a bill to end unfair no grounds evictions is back on in NSW Parliament 👏 1/4
NSW Parliament has just (finally) started debate on a bill to ban no grounds evictions & substantially improve renters’ rights in NSW. If passed, it will be a huge step towards fixing the cooked rental system in NSW that has been ignored by successive Liberal and Labor govts 🧵
Amazing to see Labor take on my suggestions to raise the renter rep to 4 and include a boarding house rep!
I'm excited to see a motion to include renters explicitly in a housing affordability & renters rights committee. But we need more spots for renters to actually reflect our huge rep in the IWC area (54% in Ashfield!) & spots specifically for those who've lived in boarding houses
People need homes not small, sunless boxes. Item 27 on this month's council agenda is a concerning attempt to steam roll experts & community consultation - leaving vulnerable people at risk of unsuitable housing.
