Worth considering that co-infection of covid19/ SARS-Cov2 with Aspergillus could exacerbate disease severity as it does with influenza. Clinical Infectious Diseases, Volume 70, Issue 2, 15 January 2020, Pages 349–350, doi.org/10.1093/cid/ci…

Good letter from Brit Soc Immunol. Herd immunity strategy can only work in parallel with stringent measures to protect the very vulnerable. This is a model that should be shared widely for scrutiny. @AdamRutherford @britsocimm @BSMM_Junior @MicrobioSoc @eurconfmedmycol @MRCcmm

A couple of key takeaways from our analysis of early COVID-19 dynamics in Wuhan: 1. We estimated that the control measures introduced - unprecedented interventions that will have had a huge social and psychological toll – reduced transmission by around 55% in space of 2 weeks 1/

Comparison of characteristics of #SARSCoV with #MERS and the novel coronavirus (#SARSCoV2). This virus has longer incubation period and much higher likelihood to be spread by those with asymptomatic and mild disease. Thats why its important to not only test the sick but everyone.

Ability to trizol extract RNA is now a useful skill like knowing CPR, being able to build a fire, and tie useful knots. Finally, I have value.

Why does ITALY observe higher rates of #COVID2019 hospitalizations & mortality? Because testing is skewed towards older people: 77% of #COVID2019 cases are above 50 years of age vs. only 44% of the population. Thanks @mugecevik

Scientists: you should wash your hands because of Coronavirus. People: I'm gonna stop flying, hoard masks, work from home & totally rearrange my life. Also Scientists: the #ClimateCrisis will kill millions - we must use clean power & change how we get to work. People: No way.

Thanks to lightning fast sequencing & data sharing from @emcat1 @robertson_lab @CVRinfo @NHSGGC @Scalene & GISAID nextstrain.org/ncov now has the 1st Scottish #COVID19 #SARSCoV2 sequence - sampled only 2 days ago! It links to other global sequences w known travel to Italy.

@Ingrida_Raz will be talking to us about sequencing porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, and the challenges of amplifying a whole viral genome in one piece!

My friend was at O’Hare today and heard people laughing at the idea of washing hands to prevent coronavirus. They said “why would we wash our HANDS? It’s a RESPIRATORY virus.” 🤦🏻‍♀️
