Five ECE PhD students presented at the @Materials_MRS Conference this month. They gave talks in optics and photonics ranging from passive infrared-to-visible light upconversion, to metasurfaces for optical trapping of atoms, to infrared optics with highly anisotropic materials.

😍Very impressive work! This is the final nail in the coffin for #LK99 - no point wasting any more time trying to replicate the Korean paper at this point! "Pure crystals of LK-99, synthesized by a team at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Germany"…

Meissner effect or bust: Day 8.5 We made the rocks

Obviously LK-99 is trending now and i am supposed to go to sleep hours ago. 🤷 shouldn’t check the Twitter (X) before bedtime… Would love to see more opinions from DFT people and let’s see how it goes. SC or NSC? Is LK-99 the future of RTSC?!! #LK99

Thread: Chinese replication efforts of #LK99 July 31st 7 am China Standard Time (July 30th 11pm UTC), a Bilibili (Chinese YouTube) account posted their results from 8 replication tests. XDR structural analysis is the same as what the papers says zhihu.com/question/61442…

Incredibly, a similar paper was published to the arXiv on the 29th from the Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science! "The existence of these peculiar flat bands may be connected with the experimentally observed remarkable superconducting properties of LK-99."

WE ARE OFFICIALLY BACK @sineatrix finds a theoretical basis for superconductivity in Cu-doped Lead Apatite. Isolated flat bands at the Fermi level is a hallmark of superconducting crystals. LK99 has it!!!! This is huge

Triage since this has evidently breached phys/tech twitter. New studies: -two experimental replication attempts find no superconductivity arxiv.org/abs/2307.16402 arxiv.org/abs/2307.16802 -one theory paper finds a sign which could be consistent with RTSC arxiv.org/abs/2307.16892

Another claim of room temperature SC and levitation by another relatively unknown group with limited background in SC, in fact, they make two bold claims in one evening, obviously this is unlikely, but the boldness is breathtaking arxiv.org/abs/2307.12037 arxiv.org/abs/2307.12008
