After my Winter Fuel Payment UQ yesterday the Government have finally responded to their own advisory committee... Only to completely ignore the bit where they say a detailed assessment is urgently required! What will it take to get them to do the right thing?

*NEW* Response from @DWPgovuk Secretary of State to SSAC's advice on Winter Fuel Payments: gov.uk/government/pub…

Labour know that their Winter Fuel Payment cut is badly thought through and will be devastating for pensioners. That's why they've refused to do an impact assessment and are now blanking their own advisory committee. It's not too late for them to do the right thing.

Unemployment goes up every time Labour’s in government. They clearly feel they’ve no time to waste, with 50,000 job losses from their first budget predicted by the OBR. Off work and onto benefits costs money…but when I asked the Welfare Secretary ‘how much?’ she had no idea

Labour's Winter Fuel Payment cut is based on 800,000 of the poorest pensioners missing out. But if they all sign up - which would be good - then £billions will be added to their already growing black hole. You can’t have it both ways. Which is it going to be Keir?

'Yes, and No' says the Minister. YES she wants 800,000 pensioners to sign up for Pension Credit to keep their Winter Fuel Payment - but NO she doesn't accept this will cost £2bn+, far more than the savings they're making by taking WFP off other pensioners. This makes no sense

Calling all farming families, farm staff, farming trades and anyone who cares about our rural way of life - help us speak up for you! The House of Commons is debating rural affairs this afternoon. Please send me examples of how Labour’s family farm tax, jobs tax and other…

I’m proud of British fruit & grateful to farmers who work hard to grow it I met @NFUtweets Tom Bradshaw at The National Fruit Show today Usually a day to celebrate fruit but not this year after Labour’s devastating budget It will destroy family farms Chancellor, think again

It’s an honour to be appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. @Conservatives are the party of work and aspiration. Now more than ever our country needs everyone to unleash their potential. And I’ll work hard to hold this Labour Government to account.

Congratulations @KemiBadenoch It’s been an honour to support your leadership campaign. Now the real work begins.

This hasn't aged well... Yesterday Labour hid a 4.6% rail fare hike in the small print - an ABOVE inflation increase, while ours was pinned to RPI. And if 3.8% is brutal, what does that make their 50% increase on bus fares...

🚌🚄Today the Tories have announced a brutal fare hike for millions of passengers. Rail and bus fares have now risen almost twice as fast as wages since the Tories came to power. People across the country are paying the price of decisions made in Downing Street.

It gets worse as you go through the Budget small print. Not just💷£40bn in tax rises 🛒Bus fares 📈 by 50%. 🛒Rail fares 📈 above inflation 🛒Railcards 📈 by 15%. 🛒Re-announced rail projects 🛒Road cancellations from Morpeth to Southampton. Is your money being spent wisely?

What does £40 billion of Labour tax rises buy you? Inflation ⬆️ Borrowing ⬆️ Growth ⬇️ Never has a Budget cost so much and delivered so little. No one voted for this Budget of broken promises.

🔴 Before the election Defra Secretary Steve Reed said: ‘we have no intention of changing APR’. ❗ When we warned Labour would he claimed that was ‘desperate nonsense’. 🚨 Now the Chancellor has just confirmed Labour will cut Agricultural Property Relief for thousands of farms.

Wrong ❌ Our £2 bus fare cap was funded by railway working practice reforms. But you gave that money to rail unions with your ‘no strings’ pay deals. And now you’re putting bus fares up 50%. Labour’s choices.

The Conservatives provided no funding for the bus fare cap beyond December. This Government is now stepping in to keep fares affordable and protect services: ✅Over £1bn to support bus services ✅A £3 max cap on fares until 2026 ✅Fares below £3 can only rise with inflation

That's £10 a week extra to get to work under Labour. Clearly bus users don't count as "working people" either.

Bus fare cap will be raised to £3, says Starmer in pre-budget speech – UK politics live theguardian.com/politics/live/…

We need growth. Sir Kier and his Chancellor should take a read of this ⬇️ and think again. To justify the tsunami of tax rises heading our way, Keir Starmer has sought to define 'working person' capx.co/?p=228145 via @CapX (3/3)

That’s not just a naive definition of work, it’s also economically unsound if your aim is growth… Because growth depends on people taking risks in the hope of sufficient reward to make the stress and insecurity worthwhile (2/3)

My read of Starmer’s definition of a working person; If you have the security of regular guaranteed pay you’re ’working’. If you do something riskier so might not get money each month, your effort doesn’t count as work… so get ready for higher taxes (1/3)

Good to chat to @SupportFairFuel in Parliament last week. Fuel Duty didn't go up for 14 years under the Conservatives - saving families over £1,000. Let's see what Labour do at the Budget next week...
