Reflecting on our #BlackHistoryMonth Slam Event with @PrisonEdWeston Prisoners performed their own poetry using learnings from the immersive & informative day. Creative events like this improve literacy, communication & confidence skills to help aid rehabilitation.

For #InternationalMensDay, we teamed up with Portland Beach Crossfit who held a day of demonstrations, participation & a speaker to inspire & build skills such as teamwork to help with life on release. 40 prisoners then took part in a fierce Portlands Strongest Man competition 👏

This week, we celebrated People Day. Mental and physical safety is vital to the wellbeing of colleagues. We held an event for our staff to raise awareness about what support is available - thank you to the groups that attended. Thank you to everyone who works at Portland 👏

Our Offender Management Unit Hub Manager recently attended a conference regarding supporting Foreign National prisoners. Very useful presentations with information to share amongst the wider staffing group to help them support this specific prisoner group.


This week, our Chaplaincy and Wellbeing Centre have been raising information about @IFWeek Displays have been created and shared with prisoners and staff to raise awareness and celebrate diversity.

Our second staff member nominated for a Butler Trust award is our @Shannon_Trust lead, and his work is often used as best practice regionally. Ofsted has recognised his work supporting and motivating prisoners, leading to many becoming Shannon Trust mentors. Well done both 👏

We're so proud of two of our staff receiving a Butler Trust nomination. The first is our Gardens Instructor for his passion and pride in supporting his learners' development and knowledge, improving the ecology of Portland and encouraging all to be more environmentally friendly!

As well as our Remembrance Service for staff and prisoners, poppy crosses were placed in our Remembrance Garden. Our prisoners created poppies and artwork to be placed around their wing to recognise the armed forces' work. We will remember them.
