If you people on Twitter are wondering why you get less engagement nowadays, you are not alone. But until BlueSky got going I had not realised that it might well be algorithmic. Compare and contrast: Honestly, it is worth opening an account there just to witness this effect

The section in the Flyvbjerg book on Caro, the Moses biography and the difference between book-writing and a series of articles, is totally eye -opening

The investments this country needs are not exactly a total mystery "The rich country with the worst mobile-phone service" economist.com/britain/2024/1… From The Economist

This letter makes a simple point really well: it is objectively better now in the other place. Of course, this post will get almost no engagement, which is the point.

More evidence that BlueSky gets more engagement than here: I reposted this one over there at 9am, already 400 likes and 50 replies. Mostly questioning my groundsmanship...

Heroically showing my determination not to go full filter-bubble: What was the last thoroughly left wing policy, the enactment of which definitely raised the UK's growth rate? Am trying to imagine writing a future history in which the Growth Mission was Accomplished

To support point @thomasforth was making. Much UK deindustrialisation when industrial energy costs low & falling, when UK switched from energy importer to energy exporter Causes could include high interest rates, strong £, Dutch disease, financialisation, falling R&D intensity...

new from me: Angel investment tax breaks like EIS and VCT are one of the sacred cows of the UK tech and VC ecosystem. I argue that the tax break tail is wagging the innovation dog, producing zombie companies, founder unfriendly terms, and increasingly little innovation. 🧵
