This is not good enough from a leader who called climate change our generation's "Nuclear Free Moment" - IMO @jacindaardern & @nzlabour have zero credibility on #ClimateCrisis unless they deal with the fact that there are #TooManyCows newsroom.co.nz/election-2020-…
There are plans to try to cut me off from the doors of mining industry lobby group Straterra. I’m going to be here as long as possible because fast tracking dangerous seabed mining off the coast of Taranaki in the habitat of precious marine life like the Māui dolphin is madness.
PRESS RELEASE Greenpeace occupies Straterra’s Wellington HQ in seabed mining protest greenpeace.org/aotearoa/press… , via @GreenpeaceNZ #BanSeabedMining #FastTrackWrongTrack
Mining lobbying is closed for business today. I’m with Greenpeace activists today and I’ve locked myself here onto the doors of NZs mining industry lobby henchmen - Straterra - to protest plans to Fast Track TTRs dangerous seabed mine in the South Taranaki Bight.
WaterForce is an irrigation comp selling large irrigation systems. Having made $$$$$$$ driving intensification of farming that's led to nitrate contamination of people's drinking water, they're now going to make more $$$$$$$ on systems to remove that pollution #Sick
Today in India I recalled the words of Mahatma Gandhi: “The world has enough for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed.” The planet can support all of us – if we treat its resources with wisdom & respect.
Every single one of the Indian state's 66,000 farms is organic and free from agrichemicals and synthetic fertilisers, which are banned. It happened because the Govt used policies, investment and a transition plan to make it happen. NZ should be next. greenpeace.nz/k7skqx
It is possible to be disappointed in a result and still value democracy. And also acknowledge how poorly these elections were run and that an entire overhaul of local voting process is needed! That does not mean you don’t respect democracy. But we can and must make it better.
Can we pledge to never have such an inaccessible shambolic local election Auckland. All eyes on ensuring everyone who wants to can vote next time. Let’s run local elections like we run central elections. Make it easy for renters, students etc. Enough nonsense.
Beginning to feel like we might not have a flourishing and well-run local democracy
political parties are good actually and solves the problem of "wtf are these people how do I know they are not crazy randos"
Finnish prime minister Sanna Marin was asked about a potential off-ramp for Russia to end the war in Ukraine. Her reply:
You don't address overfishing by regulating how fish are sold, you focus on how they're caught Maybe climate policy should focus less on emissions and more on the fossil fuels that cause them Keep it in the ground
Democracy. Next time let's not make it so insanely time consuming and difficult for everyone to vote in New Zealand.
When bell hooks said: “To be truly visionary we have to root our imagination in our concrete reality while simultaneously imagining possibilities beyond that reality.”
The decision of the Biden administration to wipe the records of people charged with cannabis possession offences is a global breakthrough for justice and highlights the shameful inaction of our government.
“Cutting tax for the richest few is wholly irresponsible, especially at a time when costs for most families are going up" @JulieAnneGenter "People should look to the UK Conservative Party for a sense of what could happen if Nats got into power here. It's a cautionary tale." 1/5
Come on @McDonalds tell your suppliers you don't want their Mud Farmed products. When you buy the 3 billion burgers worth of cheese from @Fonterra each year this is what you are supporting. #MudDonalds #EndMudFarming. @Otepoti9010 @DamienOConnorMP @toomanycowz @geoffreidnz
Seems wild that it was unpalatable to drop the top tax rate from 45% to 40% in the UK, when there’s still a policy here to drop the top tax rate from 39% to 33%.
