There has evidently been a grand total of three Cabinet officials recess-appointed since 1900, none at the beginning of a president's term. The last was Mickey Kantor as Commerce Secretary in 1996. Let's see if we can detect any differences between the Kantor appointment and the…

I'm sure I just don't understand why this is actually really smart and good, and definitely in the best interest of America. 🇺🇲

Meanwhile in Russia: Putin's presidential aide Nikolay Patrushev said, "To achieve success in the election, Donald Trump relied on certain forces to which he has corresponding obligations. As a responsible person, he will be obliged to fulfill them."

Trump is the Pied Piper, drawing out hundreds of thousands of voters who vote for him and him alone, no other Republicans. Dems are rightfully soul-searching now but Republicans are in the wilderness without their Messiah. '26 & '28 wide open for Dems.

While there are undoubtedly bad actors that pump mis- and disinformation into this platform, most notably its proprietor, I think its influence on public opinion is way overstated. Twitter is still not real life.

Here’s a video produced by “Led by Donkeys” out of the U.K. that puts down the timeline of how Musk used X to get Donald Trump elected. I would save it because I don’t think it will be up for long.

Seriously the most overrated tech pseudo-intellectual on this site. And that's saying something.

I wonder if an additional explanation for this is that we are now fully in the era of the ADHD electorate. Everyone completely distracted and goldfish-brained, reflexively voting for the new thing.

And to clarify: this isn’t just the first time since WW2 that all incumbent parties in developed countries lost vote share. It’s the first time since this data was first recorded in 1905. Essentially the first time in the history of democracy (universal suffrage began in 1894).

The thing is, none of it will matter. The rank and file got their guy elected, and they can watch him perform for them on TV and that's all they'll care about, regardless of the material effects of any particular policy. He's there so everything is instantly the best.

People don't care that the rate of increase is slower now. Incumbent parties always get punished for high inflation, rightly or wrongly. I do think many who voted for Trump think somehow prices will magically go down. When they don't, I bet they won't blame Trump.

I get the reasons for voting for him, I do. But do MAGAs really think Trump gives a damn about them or governing at all? Of course the grifters and opportunists are going to run the show. Trump just wants to golf and be flattered.

This post is unavailable.

Rs are going to be in the same position next cycle as the Ds were this cycle. You know Vance is going to want that nomination but he has nowhere near the appeal Trump does. Will be interesting to follow. Bigger question is, what will MAGAs do without their Messiah?

Seeing how hundreds of thousands of people across the swing states voted solely for Trump and left the rest of the ballot blank should be a silver lining for Ds. Trump is a unique phenomenon that Rs can't replicate. Ds get their house in order they'll be in good shape in '26/'28.

Observe the dramatic contrast with how Trump acted after he lost in 2020. The two parties are not the same.

Over the last week, many academics made confident predictions that turned out to be very, very wrong. Some of this was just wishful thinking. But much of it is because most academics simply do not listen to anyone who has different politics. They have no one in their lives on…

I think if we were going to get eight years of Trump having a four year break in the middle was the way to go. Eight years straight would have been overkill. Plus with the way the guy is fading now he might not even make it to 2028.

I’m sorry but the Party becoming whiter is the Democratic Party and the Party becoming more multiracial is the Republican Party. This doesn’t align with the theories that academics, nonprofit activists, and race scholars trotted out in the 2010s and we need to grapple with that.
