Chris Hoy: "Nobody lives forever. Our time on this planet is finite. Don't waste your time worrying about stuff that isn't that important. Focus on the things that are."

I am that old I remember Ronald Reagan’s election in 1980 (as a 17 year old) and that end of the world feeling as part of the Cold War…. Same feeling as today. Only difference is social media has amplified it. Can only hope that feeling today is as misplaced as it was then…..

Like lots of racism, their defence will be it’s all ‘harmless fun’. But a better test of whether this is racist is to swap ‘sponging English’ with Irish, or Pakistani, or migrants. This isn’t their fabled joyful civic nationalism. It’s racism.

I was told yesterday by a 20 something Uni student on over hearing that my age was 80 that old people like me are a drain on society. I reminded him that I worked for 58 years from age 15 and still very active doing many things. His only comment was "So what"

This little girl is visually impaired so we added a few grains of rice into the balloon so it rattled and she could hear it. It meant she could do what the rest of her class was doing. Adapting to your audience. Making tennis fun, doable + inclusive.

Lovely way to end the year. A sunny cycle ride and a walk on the beach to reflect on my first year of retirement. We’ve had some amazing adventures and made great memories but also had some real lows. But grief is the price you pay for love. So grateful for the life I have 🙂

Was in my hometown of Glasgow last night for first time in a long time and I couldn’t believe the amount of homeless people sleeping rough. Was heartbreaking to see. Don’t remember ever seeing that. Want to do something.Looking for advice as to what charities are best to support

Halong Bay! It’s like a movie set!
