It's not every day you get to summarise your PhD research (& @AusJPA paper onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/14…) in @AuSenate . Here's my take yesterday's announced audit on #EPBCAct #offsets.

I’ve just announced our government will conduct a full audit of environmental offsets to crackdown on developers who are shirking their responsibilities to protect nature.  Approval holders should consider themselves on notice – deliver on your obligations for nature, or face…

Day 3: woo hoo! success today in locating a endangered Condamine earless dragon. And a new site. What a beautiful dragon. Well done Jordon and Kirilee on finding this site. @museumsvictoria @MonashBiol @chapple_lab

A little video I made with @museumsvictoria in 2019. I am so happy that, as I had hoped the Victorian Grassland Earless Dragon has been found. Now to save it.

It's #WorldLizardDay! 🦎 The Victorian grassland earless dragon hasn’t been seen for decades, the plains it called home largely ploughed and paved. @MVLizards herpetology curator Dr Jane Melville, holds out hope that it can not only be found—but saved: fal.cn/33rVJ

Story of the year! Rediscovered & the focus of a huge effort, the tiny Victorian grassland earless dragon may be the world's most endangered lizard. I'm proud to be playing a part with our awesome team at @ZoosVictoria & partners #FightingExtinction for this little lizard 💕🦎

Some good news for your Sunday. This little guy is a Victorian grassland earless dragon. One hasn’t been seen in Victoria for over 50 years and was thought to be extinct in the wild - until now.

One of the best moments in my career. The rediscovery of the Victorian Earless Dragon. In 2019 I undertook the taxonomic research to show this little lizard was a unique species, different to those in the ACT & NSW. So, so pleased it is not extinct! @museumsvictoria

What a find! A virtual needle in a haystack moment. Native Grasslands are critically endangered (less than a fraction of it has escaped the plough and hard hooves in Vic) & support unique nature. Rediscovering the Earless Dragon should renew our efforts to conserve these systems

#Breaking - The Victorian grassland earless dragon, not sighted since 1969 and once feared to be extinct, has been rediscovered at a secret location. Full story here: au.news.yahoo.com/first-pictures…

What a way to start the week! 🌱💚 Once thought to be extinct in Victoria, this teeny earless dragon has been spotted for the first time in over 50 years at a top secret location! Destruction and degradation of their critical grassland habitat took them right to the brink.

Victorian grassland earless dragons hadn't been seen since 1969. We now know two ecologists got a photo in Feb, sparking a covert rescue op. 16 are now in captivity, but their big threats still remain. The location they were discovered is being kept secret🤫 📸 Melbourne Zoo.

> This discovery is amazing! > This isn't: • Only 2% of grasslands have survived destruction for development, grazing etc. • Despite promises/plans from state & federal govt even this 2% isn't safe. • The erasure of grassland habitat continues today. theguardian.com/australia-news…

We all thought the same about the mountain Pygmy possum in Victoria thought extinct but rediscovered. But no, logging its habitat continued regardless to make sure of extinction second time round. Don’t assume this will be different. Min Plibersek must protect its habitat.

With over 99% of its grassland habitat cleared & degraded around Melbourne, now is the time to stand up & protect our native grassland species! 👊🏼 It’s tiny remnant habitat needs to be protected and corridors created! Over to you to step up @tanya_plibersek and the @VicGovAu 👀

Great news to start the week! The Victorian Grassland Earless Dragon has been rediscovered on Wadawurrung country after not being seen since 1969. This cryptic species lives in the increasingly developed grasslands west of Melbourne where it has eluded researchers for 54 years

One of the worst heatwaves in modern history has arrived in California. In SoCal, widespread temperatures eclipsing 100F are being exacerbated by tropical humidity. In the Central Valley and NorCal, life-threatening 110F+ heat is smashing all-time records.

It is terrifying that one third of Pakistan is underwater, China is experiencing its worst drought on record, Europe is having its worst drought in 500 years, drought in Africa, across much of the US and Mexico and we are ONLY AT 1.2 degrees of warming. #ActOnClimate #climate
