Our 1st article about perceived risk and vulnerability of women trail runners has been published open access. We used go-along interviews to understand how interactions with the environment & other people influence enjoyment of running & perceptions of vulnerability @drjoannehill…
I look forward to reading this. Reflections in qualitative research process are so important, particularly when working with sensitive topics such as this one.
Proud to have FINALLY got this published. It's not been without challenge. Huge thanks to @DrChrisSzedlak for his academic input and friendship. It's open access and if you undertake sensitive research, it's the read for you! doi.org/10.1080/215967… @QualiSEH @UoWSport
It is very rewarding working with @thismumruns and @DrLauraGubby (Canterbury Christ Church). We're jointly actively seeking funding or a partnership from organisations committed to empowering more girls to love being active, that will help unlock the next phase of this programme.
This is a great report that I have been lucky enough to be invited to contribute to. I am looking forward to the next stages of project growth and collaboration with @drjoannehill & @thismumruns
Today we launched a report & presented @QRSE2024 - participatory research with girls who co-designed a run/walk programme offering the space, knowledge & confidence to run/walk. From the vision of @ThisWomanRuns w/ @ISPAR_UoB @OliviaFlemons @hannahfoladi canva.com/design/DAGG4vD…
#qrse2024 Distinguished Scholar Award winner Prof Andrew Sparkes (and Prof Brett Smith who introduced the award) tells us about the journey qualitative research has been on to get established in sport and exercise and how to keep going with collegiality & support for each other
#qrse2024 is sure to be a great conference. If you're going, look out for these presentations on Wednesday!
I'm ready for #qrse2024 starting tomorrow - presenting Wednesday on a co-designed girls' running programme and later on risk and vulnerability for women trail runners 🏃🏿♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏽♀️ meanwhile here's the extent of my photos this evening on the Bath walking tour!
A bit after the event, but this was a great day with such profound speakers
The Sport Human Rights & Safeguarding Research Group co-hosted a workshop with @SafesportInt with guest Alison Quigley @alisonquigleyau speaking about @athleterightsau & her PhD findings. What a great honour that the SSI Director @Annecpsu & COO Neal Anderson were with us today.
She was going for a run: researchers in the UK & Canada are looking for international academic collaborators, particularly those in the Global South & Europe (not the UK) to investigate women’s perceptions of safety when running. DM me if you are an academic or practitioner…
We would love this research to spread far and wide. Parents, coaches, and sports clubs can help facilitate this research with young people. The survey should be quick and easy for 11-14 year olds to complete. Please help share where possible and retweets welcome.
It is amazing how wonderful a bit of sunshine can make you feel!
I enjoyed writing this article with a fantastic graduate. Hopefully, men's football can become a friendlier place for women officials at all levels of the game.

Yesterday, I presented my work on power dynamics & ethical research with children, & research on #childfirstcoaching with @dikaiac, to the Association of Child Protection Professionals' #SafeguardinginSport SIG. It was a great to engage with child protection professionals
It was great to be a part of this seminar today. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the research some of our PG students are doing @SpExSci_CCCU @PhysEd_CCCU @lauraackerley
