🔆 What a great first conference day at @cbuniversity! We had a full day of panels, we got to hear from DePOT's two inaugural artists in residence, celebrated some book launches, and ended with a breathtaking concert from the Men of The Deep: a choir of retired coal miners!
See my piece on what David Hockney's new exhibition can teach us about finding beauty and joy this winter theconversation.com/what-david-hoc… via @ConversationUK
Just out @EJCS_Journal with the brilliant Nick Cox! We use Mouffe’s agonistic politics to argue that Grayson Perry’s C4 documentary explored tensions occluded by deliberative democratic debate in febrile post-Brexit Britain: https:doi.org/10.1177/136754… @LeedsBeckettMCC
What a great line up!
Delighted to see our Humanities careers fair, Get Involved: Get Hired return next week! We have a packed afternoon lined up offering students the opportunity to learn about volunteering, part-time, and graduate jobs in the West Yorkshire region. See you there! @BeckettCareers
Thanks organisers @SannaFra @eloisabetti Christian Wicke Stefan Moitra of ‘Futures of De-industrialisation’ conference for intellectual generosity and super papers in Bologna @deindustrialpol @_ISRF @LeedsBeckettMCC
Back from @_ISRF ‘Digital Humanities’ conference, Athens. Fascinating papers, supportive ambience for discussion. Wonderful start to the academic year!
I am quite jealous of the @leedsbeckett students getting to have their graduation at @fdarena! Imagine getting to walk across the stage that Iron Maiden, Bruce Springsteen etc have performed on for your graduation! I'd be going "Scream for me Leeds!!" (in my head obviously).
Thanks @_ISRF, @CatsPoliticsETC, @d_livieratou, @cnewf for a convivial evening and space for ideas exchange 👏
Heading to Leeds with @cnewf & @d_livieratou to meet with some wonderful @_ISRF Fellows past and present, including @bev_clough, @jill_gibbon, @DisabledCoOps & @DrLJTaylor
Good to hear this!
Absolutely fascinating research from @DrLJTaylor about deindustrialisation and it’s impact on community #beckettrec22
Wonderful to see Media & English Course Director, Dr Katherine Harrison @cottonopolist, beaming in from space (or Washington DC). So interesting being brought up to speed on her pioneering research 🚀
Very useful texts on deindustrialisation, regional inequalities & more in new @LW_Books @Kelliher_D selected works by Doreen Massey // @deindustrialpol @hilarypepper @HilaryOrange @DIndustrialKent @ProfPerchard @chakrabortty @ProfJSDavies @DrLJTaylor @zoe_billingham @Lucyhbmort
It's a great pleasure to have this in our hands! Huge congratulations to our Director of Research Chris Newfield (@cnewf), for his contribution to 'The Limits of The Numerical'. Check this out here 👉press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book…
That would have enriched the @BankfieldMuseum collection @Mrs_Mazzy! I was given this one while doing research @rememberfirths
My husband worked at Firths for 35yrs until it closed. He had a commemorative carpet square, given to some employees celebrating 100yrs (I think). We visited Bankfield and saw the exhibition, in it was a photo of his sister at work. He later donated the carpet to Bankfield.
I couldn’t agree more
#Channel4 was created by a Conservative government. #DerryGirls is exactly what the channel set out to achieve. Outstanding, original, joyous and amazing. Truthful and powerful. The #ConservativeGovernment should never sell off this unique asset.

Can economic resources of Levelling Up alone provide what’s needed to heal old industrial Britain? In @_ISRF Bulletin I argue art-making can do granular work to bring people together @BertolaCath #intertwiningthreads @LeedsBeckettMCC
