IFRC SG @jagan_chapagain opening the Beat the Heat session at #COP29Baku. Heatwaves are incredible silent killers: 500,000 people die every year from heat related causes, globally. But as grim as the number is, it’d be much higher without adaptation.

Climate financing - whether it is called loss and damage, adaptation or something else - must prioritze efforts to reduce the vulnerabilty of communities most at risk.

Honored to be part of the high-level annual dialogue on coordination and complementarity for funding arrangements responding to loss and damage at @COP29_AZ Our message is clear: - Climate crisis is as much about people as it is about planet. - Local communities are often the…

Over the past five years, #Nepal has used the #DREF more than six times to meet the needs of its most vulnerable populations. Given the unusual weather conditions the country has faced recently, Nepal may require additional support in the future. #IFRC #DREF #NRCS

Tomorrow, the IFRC is holding a pledging conference for the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF). The DREF puts immediate funds in the hands Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to help people devastated by disasters, whether or not they make the headlines.

Saddened and outraged to hear that several @RedCrossUkraine volunteers have been injured in the course of duty by shelling in Krematorsk. Humanitarians - and all civilians are -#notatarget

Congratulations to the people of Ukraine on your independence day. The @ifrc network will continue to invest in your future, through community-level recovery work by @RedCrossUkraine

In preparation for what is likely to be a difficult winter, @IFRC, @ICRC_ua, and @RedCrossUkraine hosted a meeting today with diplomatic and humanitarian partners. Our priority is to be ready, coordinated and practical in supporting Ukraine’s most vulnerable.

For over two years, @RedCrossUkraine staff and volunteers like Oleksandr have risked their lives to bring emergency support to those in need. On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we recall that humanitarians, civilians and civilian infrastructure are #notatarget.

Inspiring to meet up with @RedCrossUkraine emergency responders as they train. 10 years ago, URCS established its first Emergency Response Team. Today, with 600+ trained volunteers, they are responding to emergencies across Ukraine, offering vital help to those in need.

This unglamorous scene was actually the occasion to celebrate the significant progress that @RedCrossUkraine has made in helping IDPs and others in need to get jobs or start new businesses. Congrats also to @CruzRojaEsp and other partners for their effective support.

Recovery cannot wait.

🚩160 windows and nearly 1200 square meters of new roof have been installed in a Dnipro hospital that has repeatedly suffered from rocket attacks. This is not the first time that the the URCS, in partnership with the @CroixRougeLu, has repaired the damage to this medical facility.

Through ongoing attacks, @RedCrossUkraine is ready to respond around the country. This is why we invest in local capacity.

The recent attack on Poltava in Ukraine has caused a large fire affecting civilian infrastructure. People have been injured and had their homes damaged. The @RedCrossUkraine team has mobilized to provide first aid and psychosocial support and list other needs to ensure recovery.

Congrats to @RedCrossUkraine and @roteskreuzat for this important programme for Ukraine's recovery.

🚩Challenging times open up opportunities that we have not noticed before. That is why the Ukrainian Red Cross and the Austrian Red Cross have launched a two-year project, REDpreneur.UA, which teaches people how to create successful social businesses.

We can seize the opportunity to scale up early recovery in Ukraine - partucularly but not only in the west. @RedCrossUkraine is already working hard on this.

Across the country, the @RedCrossUkraine supports the recovery of millions of people affected by the armed conflict.👇 Following the Ukraine Recovery Conference this week, @ifrc calls to invest in locally-led humanitarian action that is helping build resilient communities.

Ukrainian civil society is ready to play a strong role in early and long-term recovery. Their concrete asks: 👉 include them in recovery strategy development 👉 legal frameworks on equal access to social services 👉 consistency in procurement of social service providers

🚩During the event "Ukraine's Social Recovery – A Local Approach" #URC2024, which took place in Berlin, Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the URCS, highlighted the main aspects of social recovery in Ukraine. For the statement, please follow the link: redcross.org.ua/wp-content/upl…
