Very happy for people to follow my other account @DavidLaw60 Lots of Bolton Wanderers and politics too - may not be everyone’s cup of tea 😀

I am hoping David is allowing us to continue following his ‘other’ account which also gives great insights into football!

Next election comes I would urge everyone to ensure they are represented by MPs who value and will actively support the NHS. For all its faults it remains a great achievement in sharing social costs and benefits. Again my thanks and best wishes to all my friends and colleagues

I was never a fan of tendering in the NHS and have not seen it deliver real benefits often given its cost but I hope staff transferring carry with the the values we worked hard to establish in the Trust. The NHS is working under the greatest pressure I have known and when the 4/

Who made so much difference to the lives of so many people in the county. We achieved a great deal together and with more support from partners could have done much more. Many people in @HCTNHS are starting a new chapter in October and I hope things go well for all of them 3/

I opened this account as CEO of @HCTNHS I am going to close it because that is now a long time in the past. I wish Clare, the Board and all my former colleagues the very best for the future. I miss being there greatly but life moves on. I was very proud to work with people 2/

Let's put aside the usual question about their funders & use of data and take the argument on its own terms 1/9 I can agree the NHS has some significant dysfunctions and is burdened by its very centralised nature and the overly close involvement of politicians. .

"How many more billions of pounds will be funneled into the National Health Service before politicians admit the system itself is broken and decades overdue for reform?" asks @KateAndrs iea.org.uk/media/nhs-need…

Important to read this thread. The ‘new’ money had been promised to the NHS based on savings achieved and the government reneged on this agreement

BBC reports extra £1bn for NHS capital spending this yr. There’s a catch: The £1bn is cash hospitals and other NHS trusts already have but have been forbidden to spend. They earned it last yr in incentive payments for cutting their costs [thread, 1/8ish]

I think to argue this from a “Treasury rules” perspective is wrong because the rules are so arcane. The trusts reduced public expenditure on the basis of a specific promise that was reneged on. They will not view it as new money and rightly so

2/3 So don’t think it’s illegitimate to describe this as extra funding. And, arguably, a tad unfair to imply that it’s not really extra new money, because of the way the Treasury accounting rules work (which in this case are, admittedly, pretty arcane from a lay perspective)....
