All the advice in this thread is spot-on. Graduate students: pay heed!

I'm teaching a PhD class in Vienna, and I often throw out things like advice on how not to get hijacked and embarrassed in presentations. One of the students asked me if I had written any of this down, and of course I have not, so here goes. 1/n



Academic twitter friends! Can you think of any good examples of articles that start with a strong hook? Specifically, pieces that start in a largely descriptive mode (showing more than telling), followed by a strong interpretive point as the hook's payoff.
