Only one in five Britons wants bishops to have automatic seats in the House of Lords while most the public want them removed, a new poll has shown. It’s time to remove bishops. There should be no reserved seats in Parliament for any one religion. humanists.uk/2024/11/29/onl…

I don’t agree with this. There never has been a greater imperative for journalists to keep posting here, and challenging uninformed nonsense. If we give up, we cede this place to feelings, not facts. thelondoneconomic.com/news/media/eur…

Wonderful coverage by the Irish Times of Claire Keegan's superb novella and Cillian Murphy's brilliant role in the movie of "Small things Like These". tinyurl.com/4pby9yr6

Spectacular, pre-dawn sky at 8:12am this morning to the East of Three Rock Mountain. So lucky that our bathroom window in Rathfarnham looks out on Three Rock Mountain, Kilmashogue Mountain and Montpelier Hill.

My love for my country was greatly enhanced today by the fact that no dogwhislting racist came anywhere close to being elected. Ireland hates the far right.

It's crucial to hear and share the stories of those most deeply impacted by the UK's unjust, inhumane, and unpopular assisted dying laws. Their voices deserve to be at the heart of the conversation. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

Has there ever been an explanation from republicans as to why some of their victims were disappeared rather than just shot or blown up like the remaining 1600+ victims? Why were their families forced to suffer this extra cruelty that the others were spared?

It is not about attending funerals. It is about doing things like this. Don't want to be asked about the IRA? Stop glorifying them.

Matthew isn't alone by any means. Over 60% of Christians say they support assisted dying when polled. The former Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, is a strong advocate of the right to die. humanists.uk/2024/10/16/new…

How is voting to prolong profound, intolerable suffering, Christian? This Christian, were I an MP, would absolutely be voting to support the #AssistedDying Bill this coming week. I abhor those who seem to suggest that all religious people think the same on issues like this!

Absolutely correct. And having worked in this policy area for 20 years now, I can’t think of a stickier slope. 4 bills, 2 parliamentary committees, 31 other jurisdictions ahead of us, detailed policy work by NGOs and others: and we’re still only just getting to a Bill.

Can never understand the logic of "slippery slope" arguments when we have a system where the House of Commons decides nearly everything. It's only a slippery slope if in the future the Commons changes its mind on something- which guess what, it can do at any time.

Am genuinely conflicted about assisted dying. But it can’t be right that people who want to end their lives have to go to Zurich alone

And Nikita Hand knew that in taking this case, the whole world would know every single detail, right down to what she drank, wore, snorted and said. But she was prepared to let everyone know all of that for them to also know what he did. I think that’s pretty courageous?

He has been making a show of himself for a long time now his partner has a lot to put up with but money is probably keeping them together, BUT I cannot understand the sympathy for Nikita she put herself in that position and I feel very sorry for her daughter

If blessings were real they would represent an unfair advantage ... and soliciting divine intervention would attract a penalty and a yellow card.
