Introducing the #Barriers2Galway map which aims to highlight to @GalwayCityCo where there are accessibility issues all around #Galway and hopefully encourage change. umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/barrier… It includes - 60+ Kissing gates - 25+ Missing paths - 25+ other barriers
Another kissing gate removed at South Park, plus new bike parking including provision for cargo bikes Well done @GalwayCityCo 👏👏👏👏 Great improvement for accessibility and active travel
20 yrs is not a realistic timeframe for #Galway Its 20+ yrs waiting for P&R's on green field sites It will be nearly 15 years to get Dublin rd bus lanes built Centuries to get footpaths built in some spots GLUAS in 20 years, not a chance, sorry galwaybayfm.ie/galway-bay-fm-…
Regarding bike share, Galway doesn't need electric bikes, it needs more stations, all over the city and suburbs, if usage numbers are to increase galwaybayfm.ie/galway-bay-fm-…
Be wary of numbers quoted without context e.g. 600 closures in 2024. What were the annual numbers for the last 10-15 years. Higher/lower? Is 600 normal? Especially important given the ask is for tax payers to fund an increase in profits for business owners
Restaurants battle for survival: ‘The business has changed, Fridays and Mondays are gone’ More than 600 restaurants have closed in 2024 as rising costs and pandemic-related debt take their toll irishtimes.com/food/restauran…
To be honest, for a lot of folks you don't even need to go as far as a cargo bike. A good set of pannier bags has changed the way several members of my family do their weekly shop The most common phase, "its truly amazing how much you can actually fit in them"
This Galway roundabout has the MOST REPORTS in all of Ireland on collisiontracker.ie . Council plan an upgrade....but plan to do NOTHING with 2 of the 5 arms. We want a better design, to be a Dutch style r'about like the mock-up. @CTribune @galwayad docs.google.com/document/d/10C…
If you have experienced or witnessed any near-miss or collision at the Browne Roundabout (north of Galway hospital), please take 1 minute to make a 2 line description of what happened at this link. collisiontracker.ie/report?lat=53.… Please make ONE REPORT PER INCIDENT
The junction of the Crescent and Sea Road is about to be made a lot safer for all users with the announcement of works about to commence, same beside Scoil Fhursa at Sherwood Ave which was reported numerous times to #Barriers2Galway galwaycity.ie/the-crescent-s…
Over 500 issues mapped as residents submit a flurry of "stressful, chaotic and dangerous" situations across Galway City irishcycle.com/2024/09/30/ove…
Will be on @Galwaybayfmnews at 9:10am to discuss dangerous crossing points around #Galway City for Safer Streets 4All #Barriers2Galway
This is too much irony for a single picture
The Sport Ireland #ActiveCities campaign is taking place in Galway at present to get as many people exercising and participating in physical activity as possible. sportireland.ie/activecities
Remember that time when the council and councilors decided that safe cycling infrastructure should not be added to Salthill Prom. Decisions have consequences Deadly consequences Vid from Reddit
Highlight any and all obstacles on the #Barriers2Galway map. Over 500 issues already identified Information and details on all obstacles is important to ensure action is taken to address them umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/barrier…
Today is #MakeWayDay! People with disabilities will be out and about to highlight obstacles that block the way and complicate the lives of people with disabilities, such as cars on paths, bins, sandwich boards, or barrels. Read more on MakeWayDay.com
Great work being done on this map. Its shocking the volume of reports but its vital to collect this info. If you know of any collisions, please add the info at the link below
We’ve introduced a new feature on the collision tracker, “The Readout”, which lists the 100 most recent reports. It allows you to see what’s happening lately and whether other people have reported in the same area. Check it out collisiontracker.ie/map
Its shameful that this amount of noise has to be made to have a conversation about road safety outside a school......with the school itself rte.ie/news/regional/…
