I'm on a panel at NY Climate Week about the financing gap in scaling climatetech companies. What do you see as this gap? What are the problems and why do they occur? What are the solutions?

New Electricity Rate "Reform" in California shar.es/afLhiX. This article makes one thing very clear: the IGFC is designed to destroy the savings that solar panels provide one million households in California.

Wait, so lemme get this straight: utility gets sued for not being proactive on wildfire prevention -> recovers costs of lawsuit from ratepayers? Is that right? How are utilities allowed to charge ratepayers for legal expenses from their own neglect? grist.org/wildfires/util…

PSA: folks with home battery, (Powerwall) & solar, please practice off-grid & w/o internet for a few days. Been in west Maui jumpstarting systems. No one was prepared for multi day outage. Can’t ask @tesla or your installer when there is no internet or phone service #LahainaFire

To everyone saying a certain someone's lack of planning is so dumb it's brilliant...

As with other life cycle analyses, this one appears to be comparing a best case scenario for ICE cars to a worst case for EVs. @nickvanosdol EVs still come out ahead.

🔎 🔋🚗 Here's a graphic + lifecycle emissions analysis that's sure to raise some eyebrows... I imagine there's some competing data out there that's much more favorable for EVs - who's got it for comparison?

With lithium prices dropping and the new 30% tax credit, home energy storage is more affordable than ever. You don't even need solar. A home battery on its own qualifies: dbcpower.com/save.html

Private investment in home batteries saves all ratepayers money when the owners are compensated to use those batteries for max benefit. While rest of the US quickly adopts, admin judge in AZ thinks state should wait another 4yrs before even talking about virtual power plants. 🤔

All the way to NOPE town. Been shown many times that you need both. They are NOT in direct competition. You need #space and #time storage. Otherwise all shit breaks loose (to be scientific).

In my new book The Heat Will Kill You First, one infrastructure expert in Phoenix calls a major blackout in a major US city during a heat wave "a heat Katrina" (a ref to Hurricane Katrina) And he told me it is all but inevitable.

The #heatdome enveloping Phoenix already poses a huge risk to public health. But if a blackout occurred, it would become far deadlier, writes @kate_selig washingtonpost.com/climate-enviro…

Good illustration of the challenge facing the next tranche of solar in the Southwest. Demand after subtracting variable renewable gen is near zero for some hours. New solar will have to be paired with batteries (costly) or interregional transmission (difficult to build).

I love how people like Matt consider themselves intellectuals and then completely undermine themselves by spouting utter rubbish like “batteries last about 60,000 miles.” The batteries will invariably outlast the cars. Why do I know this? Because I’m an expert. And Matt isn’t.

If Britain switches all cars to electric, it may actually increase emissions. An EV has to travel 50,000+ miles to break even with an ICE car. That number is growing, not shrinking. But batteries last about 60,000 miles. dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…
