For the first time in Canadian history, the federal government is enacting the Emergencies Act to deal with the ongoing trucker protests. Fmr CSIS head Dick Fadden tells @EvanLSolomon he doesn't think this is government overreach.
Once this occupation is done (whether through attrition, Watson surrendering, Feds, Army etc) we should declare downtown vehicle free for a few months to allow people who live there time to recover. Then slowly open limited routes, reduce parking, & massively increase calming.

Never in my career have I seen so many public officials, who presumably got into their jobs partly to help people and partly because they like power, publicly stating that they have no power and will not help people.
The attack on residents from diesel fumes is a reckless endangerment of the city’s health. My urging to @OttawaPolice is to enforce against it. If trucks need to idle to keep occupants warm the alternative is clear: go home. cbc.ca/news/politics/…
Earlier tonight the police cleared out all the firewood and put out the fires on Kent st at a camp set up on the street. I was there when this happened and I’d say about 30 officers were there to clear it out #cdnpoli #ottnews
