The “dramatic” pay levels of university vice-chancellors in Northern Ireland, which see them earn twice as much as the First Minister, are demoralising for frontline staff, a trade union has said. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/education…

My wife is from Carndonagh. In childhood she went to Derry every weekend. She didn't visit Letterkenny until she was about 17. So, you can figure out how Inishowen, in particular, and Derry are a natural unit.

Serious question: If there’s no valid reason Derry must remain in NI, and if Stormont refuses to govern the North West fairly, as it has done for 100 years… Why should Derry wait for an NI-wide poll - and not instead demand an immediate repeal of the Boundary Commission report?

The Suite have just released their latest single, “Can You Feel It?”. Coincides with their first formal headliner concert at the Nerve Centre tonight (Fri 15th Nov). I wish the 4 lads the very best. They have worked so hard to get to this point. open.spotify.com/track/5LkTjebk…

It is 100 years this month since the Boundary Commission first met - in London (November 6, 1924). Not one of the arguments made to retain Derry in the Northern state would still hold sway today. Which begs the question...

In 1934, 7368 Donegal citizens petitioned to have their region transferred into NI. It wouldn't have mattered as both sides of the NW border ended up abandoned by their governments. But it highlights the folly of not treating Derry-Donegal as a single unit, then and now.…

In fairness to @conormurphysf this shouldn't be on his desk. Garrett Hargan's book on the decision to deny Derry its own university, A Scandal in Plain Sight, shows the need for independent oversight of NI's universities. The RoI, England, Scotland and Wales all have independent…

Coming December 1. More than 50 tales of northwest Ireland from the pen of BBC broadcaster and Derry historian Ken McCormack. Including, for the very first time, Ken's own research into assassination of the notorious Lord Leitrim. colmcillepress.com/product-page/k…

The only smart option for Stormont, Paul Bartholomew and @conormurphysf here is to reduce student fees in Derry, Otherwise students from NI will have to pay 9k in Magee for a service they can get free half-an-hour down the road in Letterkenny or indeed anywhere else in the South.

Possibly the worst idea ever in the history of university development. The new fees will be treble those of the ATU university just 20 minutes away. Magee will empty. Garrett Hargan is working hard on the new edition of A Scandal on Plain Sight, thank God. search.app/5Thn3EiVRZnyar…
