As adults, we need to stop 'stealing the struggle' from our kids. When we 'steal the struggle', we steal their opportunity for growth & learning. We need to prepare them for the path (teach resilience, reflection, and self-respect), but we can't prepare the path for them.

"And we will have a sport called powerlifting." "Where we lift weights with maximum power?" "No, that's Olympic lifting." "So in powerlifting, there is no power?" "There's a little power."

A good leader takes responsibility. They are not afraid to be held accountable for the decisions that are made. There is no “throwing people under the bus”. They make the best decision possible after determining all factors and are fully invested in the success of that decision.

I don’t directly teach confidence. The weight room teaches confidence if you’re locked in. Preparation teaches confidence. Consistency, accountability, intensity, patience, trust and intent teach confidence. Without those things, asking kids to be confident is silly.

Joe Mazzulla explained why he doesn’t feel pressure from the Boston media: “They don’t have a weapon. They’re not gonna come after me. They’re just saying words.” “We’re either going to win or we’re not — 40 years from now, none of you are invited to my funeral, and that’s it.”

As coaches we cannot always make great players out of players that simply don’t have the talent or ability. However, we CAN teach that less talented boy to become a man. This WIN isn’t seen on the scoreboard, but coaches are winning this game, behind the scenes, every day!!!

Do you coach to help players or do you coach for players to help you?

Some “Bad Team” will get “Hot” right before the playoffs and go on a roll and beat a top ranked team…What changed?…… 1) The leadership is consistent and accepts responsibility 2) The leadership makes “hard decisions” and isn’t concerned with “being liked” 3) The leadership…

Biggest issue I see with high school volleyball athletes: They’re overtrained in volleyball. They’re undertrained in GPP (general physical preparation) (Yes pedantic Pete’s I know this happens on other sports too but I don’t do those sports anymore)

When you get a head high school job, you have to be careful about hiring your friends. They won’t all respect your position, and their clowning and lack of preparation can get you fired. Keep your friends for friendship, but only work with the skilled and competent. It's just…
