Yesterday I tweeted about a presentation I did for the Columbia Nursing PhD students. Here is a roundup of all the parts of it: Introduction: twitter.com/CindyBVeldhuis… #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter #academic #betterposter #PhDChat #AcademicPoster #scicomm #ConferencePosters

Inspired by the #betterposter #betterposters discussions of how to present findings on posters, I thought I'd share a presentation I did for the @CU_Nursing PhD students a few months ago.

Yesterday, in our lab meeting, our ice breaker question (which we do every meeting) was, "What is your favorite apocalypse book, movie, or tv series." Sad to say, we each had at least one.

President Obama in 2016, “No matter what the sun will rise again in the morning.” She did and she will and I do find some comfort in that.

Pro tip: if your stomach is so churny over the current state of the country that you haven't been able to eat lunch or breakfast, don't eat twizzlers. You're welcome.

📢 I will be taking one clinical psych PhD student this year. Please help spread the word bc applications are due December 1. I'm not yet on the website bc this just happened, but application info is here: psychiatry.northwestern.edu/education/clin…

What's your election night strategy? 1. Stay up till bedtime, sleep decently, wake up to learn results. 2. Self-medicate, sleep fitfully, wake up in a dead panic to learn results. 3. Stay up all night completely stressed but unable to stop watching news till you learn results.

We had our first community outreach event today--a mashup of a town hall and an "Ask me/us anything." We talked abt our work, ppl gave us feedback, and asked us questions about relats and sex. So many people came - we had to have an overflow room. Now I need to sleep for 3 years.

❓❓Poll: Academics, would you rather… 1. Scrunch all your meetings to fit a couple days a week and try to keep the other days as meetingless as possible Or 2. Spread your meetings out throughout the week. 3. Some other option - write in comments!

Woo hoo! Join us and/or help us spread the word!

Find yourself a mentor who responds to your email in which every sentence ends in an exclamation point (for which you apologize) with an email that has even more exclamation points!

A little article I wrote about our research and queer women's health research broadly: OPINION Queer women are overlooked in LGBTQ+ and women’s health research, and we’re here to change that  windycitytimes.com/2024/10/25/opi…

A previous mentor's response any time I was worried or upset about something was "fix yourself." Not super helpful.
