Instead of the usual Cenotaph ceremony, my brother Carl and I visited the graves of our grandfather David Bird (in pic), our dad’s, and our uncle’s graves (all veterans) on Peepeekisis and placed our poppies and smudged. They would have approved.

On this Nov. 11th at Brookwood Military Cemetery, the final resting place for more than 2,500 Canadians, our Canada House Team in the UK observed Remembrance Day - to honour the service and sacrifice of all those we have lost in war, ensuring they are both thanked and remembered:

From John McCrae’s brilliant poem “In Flanders Fields”, 🇨🇦is credited w/ originating the idea of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. I get many great comments from folks in London abt my Metis beaded poppy which I’ll wear tomorrow at the Royal Remembrance Service on Whitehall.
