It's that time of the year again! Always a pleasure to be involved in teaching the next generation of our best and brightest!
Pretty upset we didn’t go with: Youngling- med student Padawan - FY1-3 Jedi knight- CT1-2 Jedi master - ST 3-8 Grand Master - Consultant Can’t win’em all 😔
There is power in a name. Patients deserve clarity, and this is a move forward in that direction. Resident Doctor better reflects the training, skills and experience that we bring to the table.
An exciting first day at @TheBMA ARM 2024. Great motions, impactful speeches, and a few well deserved standing ovations.
VOTE AT THE BMA AGM bma.org.uk/agm ALL MEMBERS can vote on the finances, auditors and crucially: rules changes (the articles). There are rules changes coming to this ARM/AGM on who gets to be a BMA member and the local structure of the BMA. You should have a say. 🧵
We are calling for @NHSEngland to review its projections for growth in the physician associate workforce until issues of regulation, standards and national scope of practice are addressed. Read our full updated statement to the Long Term Workforce Plan: ow.ly/QhwJ50S9tcr
True, you have been in the room It’s where you told us you were more afraid of what the daily mail readership would think rather than actually trying to resolve our dispute Stellar leadership
I’ve been in the room with Junior Doctors. Keir Starmer cannot tell you how he would actually solve the dispute. I would stand up for taxpayers and patients. It’s called leadership.
I went to @UniofOxford medical school in 1991 and became a consultant interventional cardiologist in 2012 - 21 yrs later. There are no short cuts in medicine. Just hubris at the expense of patient safety
How long does it take to train a doctor?? It takes a LONG time to develop clinical skills and expertise. And to just see enough stuff to be prepared for when something new pops up. Congratulations Max!
In the wake of the #RCPEGM scandal, 29 Fellows of @RCPhysicians - 11 of whom are Professors of their field - have sent the following open letter to the College. This is true medical leadership - thank you all 👇
In the light of #RCPEGM we drafted together a timeline & action plan on how to implement the 5 motions as well as the aspects @RCPhysicians must investigate to see how we got to this place.
I have to do an online mandatory training module about antibiotic stewardship. You couldn't make this up. #NHS
Excellent thread by @trishgreenhalgh Thanks to the incredible work done by Council and other fellows in organising this survey of member's views, and in pushing for transparency in the publication of the full dataset. @UKGastroDr @parthaskar
Because the RCP is a large, complex and rather opaque organisation, here is a thread about how it is organised and functions. And some of the ramifications that the current goings-on are shedding light on. So buckle up punters, for a Vaughan mega-nerd 🪡 1/
Hospitals cynically burying evidence about poor care in a “cover-up culture” the NHS ombudsman has warned He’s not wrong. Yet it carries on day after day. And @DHSCgovuk @NHSEngland enable this by failing to acknowledge it #whistleblowingbill theguardian.com/society/2024/m…
The #RCPEGM failed to answer the tough questions raised by fellows. Concerns raised once again about the training experience of resident doctors - these were acknowledged, but no solutions offered. The RCP must do better in listening to the voices of members and fellows.
The RCP was reminded about the unfairness in the workplace, with a 1st year PA, with no out of hours work, out earning a fully qualified doctor by £10,000. 🔴The RCP acknowledges that the ‘training environment is not optimum’. So what are they doing about it? 🔴They state that…
ICU Pharmacology Secrets: Some drug side effects, even if relatively rare, are well entrenched in our memory. For example, most intensivists & hospitalists are aware of cefepime-induced neurotoxicity or clindamycin’s association w C difficile infection (or even the seemingly
