International adoptees deserve full access to their rights as American citizens, but tens of thousands never received citizenship due to a gap in the law. Today, @RepDonBacon @maziehirono @SenatorCollins and I are introducing the Adoptee Citizenship Act to close this loophole.

This is a monumental change that USCIS acknowledges the struggle of adult Adoptees who are pursuing rightful citizenship! @USCISDirector @USCIS

This is huge news for adult intercountry adoptees in the United States who lack proof of US citizenship. While limited to Certificates of Citizenship, it eliminates a filing fee that will soon be $1,335. adopteesunited.org/intercountry-a…

For decades, U.S. military personnel have used ad hoc protocols to bring foreign-born children into the U.S. without proper, legal documentation. Children pay the ultimate price; many grow into adulthood without nationality rights. apnews.com/article/afghan…

People adopted by US citizens as children should automatically be US citizens. Except that's not true.

Adoptees are still waiting for the government to fix the loophole that excluded them in 2001. Everyday they struggle without their right to citizenship even though they were welcomed into American families more than 60 years ago! #Fix-It @JudiciaryGOP @GOP @gop

It’s been 22 years since Congress created the loophole that made legally adopted children of U.S. citizens vulnerable to deportation. 2023 is the year to pass the Adoptee Citizenship Act and give all Adoptees the full benefits of adoption. #FIX-IT @SenJudiciaryGOP @JudiciaryDems

Fix the loophole congress created 22 years ago that made Adoptees vulnerable to deportation, struggling to get driver licenses, healthcare, retirement benefits & employment simply cuz congress decided not all Adoptees are deserving of their citizenship even w US citizen parents.
