This is a photo of Babri Masjid, a mosque that stood for over 400 years in Ayodhya, India. In 1992, it was destroyed in a riot instigated by the BJP, now India's ruling party. On Sunday, Hindu nationalists want to celebrate that atrocity in NYC. Will Mayor Adams let them?

🧵 Bangladesh’s Prothom Alo newspaper has a front-page story on the final moments of Hasina’s tenure. She insisted on using brute force until only 45 minutes before her departure; no amount of pleading from her aides and officials could persuade her to relent. 1/n

It finally hit home. Just learned that one of my first cousins, an undergrad student, is seriously injured after being hit in the head by a rubber bullet. A young journalist I mentor was mercilessly beaten in Dhaka by ruling party activists.

My country is just gone. 72 dead one day. On top of over 210 killed previously. I just can’t take it anymore. This is the saddest day in my life.

STATEMENT THREAD: The ongoing scenes in Rotherham are beyond appalling. Far-right racists have besieged, attacked and tried to burn down a hotel housing asylum seekers. They did so while chanting Tommy Robinson’s name as well as “burn it” and “set it alight.” (1)
