git.ht is up. Cause I’m never finishing that static website generator, am I. Git hooting and bring back RSS y’all!

The first modern ternary (base-3) computer was the Soviet "Setun." Built in 1958 at the Moscow State University by Nikolay Brusentsov, it had notable advantages over the binary computers that eventually replaced it, such as lower electricity consumption & lower production cost.

Complexity around ClojureScript is baffling and can't be excused. I blame Google Closure compiler. That thing needs to be cut with extreme prejudice. shadow-cljs et al will fall like Russian dolls, sun will shine, new dawn would be upon us and it'll be glorious

This to me feels like … missed opportunity for valuable research. Are toys written million times before the kind of programs we aspire to write? 1. I suspect given large codebase entropies asymptotically converge. 2. Even measured on real codebases that’s meh cause diff sets

Programming languages have widely varying ability to communicate logic succinctly. If you look at character counts of 10 basic programs in each, Java has 2x higher entropy than Python. Very different result for natural spoken languages.

Word. But there’s more! GNU Guix brought the entire monadic jungle into Scheme of all things - cause apparently it wasn’t expressive enough to thread the bloody store through. Talk about pointless Haskell envy

The reason why Haskell Devs are trying to turn everything into Monad is because it allows them to use do-notation and finally program in a Proper Imperative Language from 70s.

Arguments so intelligently laid out and eloquently expressed will surely tug at the hearts and souls of your audience. There was no need to mince words. Next time say what u really think. The “it” isn’t about dubious compliance but Linus’s email making it about nationality 100%

It has nothing to do with nationality you idiot. Stop spreading misinformation. Those fucks live in Russia and work for Russian companies

This has got to be the first ever recorded mention of Setun’ machine on Twitter :) and it doesn’t come from a long retired RAS engineer to boot. Made my day

You can now use 1.58 bit LLMs with llamafile. I just uploaded TriLM. Its weights are -1 / 0 / +1 just like the Soviet Setun. It comes in 8 different sizes (78MB to 1.3GB) and has good benchmark scores on four CPUs. huggingface.co/Mozilla/TriLM-…

I don't know who needs to hear this but clojure.core.async is very low level and #Clojure essentially offers little beyond this assembly for concurrency. I guess we're all focused solving REAL issues like component libs, React wrappers and shit ... how's there no OTP for Clojure?

I’d … just … use … Erlang/OTP. Cause what u have is the easy part - like 2% of what’s needed. And yeah the cute bootstrap style fsm is there cause we can’t have nice things like tail call optimization, sigh

Hey my #Clojure friends, I wrote this blog post about designing a async worker system in Clojure, check it out if you're into that sort of thing! blog.janetacarr.com/creating-a-dea…

Have I mentioned I’m writing #clojure at Neo4j now? Yeah, that happened

Casey Muratori (@cmuratori) gave the keynote talk at FUTO's Don't Be Evil Summit. He discusses a new way to approach moderation online: Digital Due Process. Give it a watch and let us know what you think. Do you agree/disagree? Tell us why!

Can confirm. I immediately got warning and take down from Lobsters admins. Tech depth was of no concern to them. Just the fact u’re not allowed to post your own stuff

This post is unavailable.

hey @Tailscale is your certificate ok? Cause tailscale.com is no longer accessible. Have you forgotten to renew? :)

Wait. I thought automatic persistence for CLOS objects was a solved problem?! Isn’t there an open source version or AllegroCache or modern implementation of MetaStore or smth? Or should I be thinking CL images instead? @Ngnghm do u know maybe?

Autism at Franz Inc is on another level. Free Express Ed never mentions heap limit. I found out it exists on Reddit. Would it freaking kill them to state it’s there and TELL US THE F..ING SIZE. It is impossible to google. Anyone knows? Challenge: biz friendly lisp. Impossible

It just occurred to me what a disaster it would be with respect to @Tailscale sign on. Github as identity provider is very convenient. @apenwarr do u guys have anything in place when disaster such as this strikes?

Banned from GitHub without any explanation. Guess I'm moving all my code to BitBucket. github.com/defunkt
